I've now had the lens for several weeks and I'm very pleased. Initially I shot mostly wide open and it's dead sharp, whatever some people say. Actually sharper than anything else I've tried at f/1.4, regardless of focal length. The rendering is not at all like the 35/2 (which I miss sometimes). More neutral, subtle and elegant, and if you stop down a bit it acts very much like the 50/1.4 Planar except for a little harsher
Focusing is easy closer than ~1.5 meters, but further away it becomes very difficult even with the Katzeye or Canon EG-S (I have both and can't really decide which is worse). But when you nail it, everything
Have a look at the bokeh. Yes, it's a bit harsh, but interestingly the contrast is lower in the blur than in the sharp field. This means you won't notice the bokeh at all until you look for it....Show more →
Congrats on getting this great lens!
Yes, the bokeh can be nervous at certain distances but most of time is smooth and it renders OOF areas less strongly/contrasty and more painterly than 35/2 and 50 and 100 MP and is more like 50P and CY 100P and 85P.
I like having both 35/2 and 35/1.4 CY as they complementeach other.
Enjoy!
these are really fantastic shots. I feel like I'm standing right in the forest. Beautiful. Especially the stitch. The greens are amazing. How did you process the greens so well? Any pointers?
Cant wait for my 5D to get back and get shooting with this lens. Its gone for repairs.

thanks! no special color processing other than possible white balance correction. this lens just produces wonderfully accurate and detailed greens. my processing consists mostly of a little curve tweaking and adding vignetting.
the brand new (to me anyway) C/Y 1.4/35 on a 1DsMkIII All were wide open, or close to it.
I thought it was appropriate to shoot a car from about the same vintage.
Still have a lot to learn about this awesome lens.

And I might add that NEX-7 is pretty color accurate and lovely in some time near base ISO.
Your work might serve as samples "how should 3D look like".
