Thank you all for your verious surgestions. I did have rx1 and recently sold it. For me, it had great color bold color and good sharpness, but not he type of rendering I like.
For contax 35mm f1.4, I have one last question. How is it at f1.4 to f2.8 for sharpness and contrast?
I ask this because, I have Contax 85f1.4 and the f2.8 and found the f2.8 to be more pleasing. The 2.8 is sharp at 2.8 with great contrast, while the f1.4 need to be stop down to f2 to get sharpness and contrast and at f2.8 for it to be great (but still not in the same level as f2.8) Thank you

there is definitely a decrease in SA and subsequent increase in contrast when you stop down from f/1.4 to f/2.8, it's pretty similar to the c/y 85/1.4, but it seems to me that the 35 has more resolution at f/1.4 than the 85.
Thank you Sebboh, thank you for all detailed shots. The sharpness and contrast at f1.4 and f2.8 is still a question that I may have to test it out myself. Pixel peeping and zooming photos to 100% is a bad habit that I have (though it does not have anything to do with how the whole picture look). But the f1.4 is a big and exspensive lens, it looks to be very very good quality.
Hi all, I have made my purchase on Contax 35mm f1.4 and will be sharing some photos here soon. The rendering and sharpness is wonderful. The color is just classic!!
It's the Milvus. At first, I thought this thread was dedicated to the C/Y version in various flavors, but I saw that images from other Zeiss branded 35/1.4 lenses was posted, so I figured any Zeiss 35/1.4 lens was allowed. I have never owned any of the ultra-classic C/Y or the classic ZE/ZF.2 versions.

yeah, the thread started out dedicated to the rollei and contax 35/1.4, but slowed down a lot over the last few years and now seems to be working as any zeiss badged 35/1.4. i'm very curious to see how the new milvus compares to the classic ZE and contax versions for portraits.
I meant to post a few recent shots from the Milvus 35/1.4 here...I posted them on the big Sony FE thread, but forgot to add them here (copied from the FE thread):
I did some test shooting with the new Milvus 35/1.4 at Potawatomi Conservatory (South Bend, Indiana) yesterday. Here are a few samples. Bokeh is absolutely gorgeous (in a "modern" way, nothing like the wonky bokeh that I often like for flowers), so nothing to worry about if you are thinking of upgrading from the "classic" Z* version. These are all wide open with minimal processing in ACR.
Hello Zeiss 35 1.4 fans. I've been using the ZM 35 1.4 TAP'd on a Sony A7RII and I think I'm pretty much over the compromises that come with that combination. Assuming use on a Sony A series body, has anyone given up the 35 ZM 1.4 for the native ZA 35 1.4? If so, what's the experience been like? For a long time I thought I'd never travel with such a large lens, but when I weigh the benefits, I think I might just suck it up and deal with the size and weight, assuming the rendering is in the same spectacular ball park as the ZM. I have traveled pretty extensively with the FE 35 2.8 and sadly its just not my cup of tea, although a very capable lens in many respects. Overall, I'm kind of done with TAP until it significantly improves in a few areas. Thanks in advance. PS, I have been using the ZM 35 1.4 on a Leica M240, I'm just not sure rangefinders are for me. The "what you see is what you get" operation of an EVF has spoiled me.
I think the C/Y might be my next purchase (probably in about a year). Will have to dig through this thread and see how it differs from the Zony (also interested in the Samyang).
