I don't want to start a new thread for this. When walking around, is it ok to let the 80-200 hang by my neck strap? Walking for miles I am not always shooting but I know it's better to support the lens. Does that mean I should not let it hang and always support it by the lens a bit?
yes, since it is quite heavy do not burden the bayonet too much, it might bend?? I always support the lens and body in the cradle of my arm, and it wil not bump into anything either. I do have serious biceps though...

I wouldn't do this with a D50 due to body-construction. On a professional camera it can be done without any harm although some extra care won't hurt your camera
