p.2 #1 · 1DsMkII or 1DMkIII resolution vs speed

I have a 1Ds II and I agree that files from it need more PP, the resolution of 1Ds II is still quite amazing when looking at 100%. Never had a 1D III, so can't say much about that aspect.

Oddly enough I have found the opposite to be true. My shots from the 1DII and 1DIII need more post than my 1DsII.

Strange.

I agree with Mike about post-processing MkIII files versus 1DsMkII files. MkIII files need more work, even just the basic stuff: contrast, saturation, sharpening. I've owned both the 1Ds MkI and MkII - wonderful files. The only non-Ds camera I've had that produced such nice files out of the camera was the original 1D.

The AF on both can do what you want, and more. I use a 1Ds2 & 1D2n to shoot R/C events and the AF is identical as far as I'm concerned. I also find that for planes high in the sky I get a better sized file after cropping from the 1Ds2 but the 1D3 will have roughly 25% more pixels than a 1D2n so that may balance out. Until I can buy something like the 1D4 my 1Ds2 is my go to body & I've recently had 2 chances to buy 1D3's at very good prices locally. I've had a 5D2 but sold it because I preferred my 1Ds2 over it too, but it does have one thing that I don't like about it which is the buffer. I shoot large fine jpg & RAW which can really jam things up when shooting a fast low level pass where I want a sequence showing the full pass. Files are slow to transfer, which sometimes forces me to take a break or shoot with the 1D2n while it catches up. Other than that I have absolutely no complaints with it.

Seems to me you are expending a lot of energy to create for yourself a dilemma without a solution. You seem to believe that you need (or want?) the combined features of the cameras you mention. None of those cameras can give you all of it (or so it seems), but either the 1DsMKIII or 1DIV probably could (or at least come closer to what you are looking for), yet you say you can't afford these? Doesn't make sense to me. Either you pay for the features you need (or want?), or you compromise, and nothing's going to change that. No matter how long this thread gets, you're still faced with the 'limitations' of the 1DsII and 1DIII relative to what you're looking for from your next DSLR.

I know that , I am discussing merits and asking peoples opinions.....I have exactly opposite thoughts here from everybody in this thread for each camera. Which is good... This is a fun thing for me. People give opinions and their experiences with the products. This isn't a test thread, just a what do you think one....Rich
