That's because the "red blink" has, since the 1990 EOS 10S, indicated an AF lock. AI servo, by nature, never locks on a target. Instead it is always actively focusing, hence no red blinky.
Then I guess my 1Ds, 1Ds2, 1D3, 1Ds3 must be defective - they all illuminate the AF point in Servo mode by default (can be turned off).
