I mucked around and put the Picture package thing in PS but have problems with it.
It works fine for the premade 8x10 package but I want to do A4.
When I do the A4 size page and set the layout up, when it actually comes to print PS puts borders on the images and makes them undersize.
I thought at first this was to do with proportion so made sure to use proportional sizes to my image files but that didn't help.
Next I thought I'd do an action but as mentioned, it isn't as easy as an inexperienced person like myself may think. I get various messages saying the select command and other things aren't available so obviously I have to work out another way to do the same thing.
I went through this frustration before and it took me about a week full time to figure it out and I can neither remember what I did nor have the ability to concentrate on something like that these days thanks to some health issues.
I tried looking for some pre-made actions I could download but didn't have any luck there and the how to-s on the web don't explain why I anm getting the borders rather than all the images just lining up right next to each other in the right size.
I thought this would have been a real easy thing to find a program for but it's turning into a nightmare. I want to get this new venture off the ground but I can't even do a price list till I work out what I can offer.
Any suggestions of a program or how to program PS would be greatly appreciated.
the best printing software that i have ever used is Qimage by ddisoftware. Mike Chaney is the developer and stays very involved with customers. the only issue for me right now is that i have a mac now and he is just not budging on creating a mac version. the printing layout versatility, upsizing, downsizing, sharpening, just everything about this software is awesome. i am going to miss it and am looking for something new myself. if you are running windows though, this is the very best for around $60 i think(its been awhile since i've looked) and free lifetime upgrades, which are very often.
An Epson R2400 is what i still use after years now. there is a newer version i believe. this printer uses pigment inks and are expensive, but you can rest assured knowing that there won't be any problems after you sell your prints. it prints up to 13x19.
here is a link to qimage. i hope its alright to post this here. i am not affilitated in any way, just love the software. http://www.ddisoftware.com/qimage/
Go download Express Digital and see if it doesn't do exactly what you want. It has tons of premade packages for an 8x10 and other sizes, the core edition usually costs around $500 but you can develop templates and already have the templates for printing, the new version also has a green screen feature. I have 3 copies for my business and it works great, yes it is little pricey but the time it has saved me has more than covered the costs in saved labor

What are the original dimensions of the image you are trying to print?
EDIT: PS will make the border if the dimensions of the original picture don't satisfy the dimension requirements (aspect ratio) of the individual photo. This may just need a simply crop action + picture package. Also, to add to the question above about original dimensions of the photo you want to print, what sized photos do you want to print on the A4 dimension?
Qimage is something that you should look into. It is an excellent printing application. Only works on windows, but you can do many of the things that you want to do with it. Qimage also has a forum for support and Mike's support turn around time, while email only is exceptional. And you post on the forum to get a lot of help quickly as well.
1click actions also came out with some collage actions that allow for some interesting templates and logo/text placement that may assist you.
I looked at qimage and also Lightroom and they seem to do what I want.
Never thought programs to do this quickly and easily would be so hard to find though.
Looks like I'm in Business!
i'm going back to qimage now as i type. i just could not find anything out there to compare. the downside is that i had to connect an old windows laptop that i had back on my home network just for qimage. i tried running the fusion software on my mac so that i could run windows, but even though it works as its supposed to, it does slow up the macbook to some extent and the time that it takes to load it up each time i use it. i find that its going to be much easier to just use this windows machine only for qimage when i need to print. and yes, qimage is that good to where its worth it for me. i thought that i could live without it and find another way to do my printing, but its just not happening. and then, if the software itself is not great alone, look at the price! and thats with lifetime upgrades-for free! for me its always been and still is the best deal around. i tried to talk mike chaney into writing a mac version last week, but he's not budging on this still. that has been a hot topic of discussion on qimage message boards for years. i had not visited in awhile and was hoping that he had come around by now, but its not happening. thats another great feature of qimage too, you can actually chat with the software developer just about anytime you want. he will actually respond to your message and take part in discussions on the message forums.
