No. I was in West Germany and, not being a photojournalist, had no interest in getting involved in such activities, much less bringing a camera (F4s back then) into a potentially difficult situation.

I was 6, but my dad was in the Royal Air Force stationed in Germany when it happened, we drove over there literally days after it happened, I don't really remember a lot about it, but he tells me stories of East German soldiers on patrol telling us they hadn't been paid for weeks, and entire streets of table stalls set up by war veterans - both German and Russian selling their medals to buy food.

One of the very few times I wish I was older, what I'd give to be this age back then and go there!

Jozef ... we escaped in 68 when the Russians invaded. I still remember them shooting the old lady who used to babysit me and the tanks on the side of street. Yeah, the history may be faded in many peoples minds now ... but it pays to sometimes reflect on the traumatic parts of the past ... just to put the brakes on a bit on the tendency to re-do the same things and excuse them by the little details that do differ.

I remember crying tears of joy watching that d@mn wall come down. I visited Berlin in 1985 and crossed via Checkpoint Charlie into the East. I still get choked up watching it come down.

No Photos, but just watched the German movie "The Tunnel." HIGHLY recommend it, and am always curious how historically accurate movies like it are...

All thanks to this guy, whose name was not even mentioned today in Germany.
And thanks to him i can write in English today.
At this time 20 years ago i was in Italy waiting for permission to come here, and was watching everything unfolding on TV.

Thanks to Reagan and thanks to this man too. Two great heros of the time.
