I photographed this cascade on the upper Butter Milk River located just outside of Ithaca NY in 2006. A friend’s recent thread on another forum about B&W inspired me to go back and process this photo using my favorite tool to do conversions, the channel mixer in Photoshop. I checked each of the channels and liked the red channel the best and also found the blue channel created wonderful drama with the high contrast because the foliage was deemphasized. The mix was 50% red, 35% blue, and 15% green.
Comments and suggestions welcome,
Morris
Ps. This is my first post on this forum in a very long time. I’m usually found on the Nature and Wildlife forum as I photograph a lot of wildlife yet am happy to do landscapes when the opportunity presents.

Very nice conversion here. Really like your POV and a great choice of shutter speed some very nice detail left in the flowing water. Nice work here Morris
Hi Morris, good choice of SS to maintain the sense of movement in the water. It's a personal choice, but I'd prefer more of a Pan-X, less contrast look for this.
I am glad you decided to come over here and visit with us! What a truly wonderful shot. A great composition, and a really great job in your B&W conversion. That is a really cool looking river.
I do not know if it is intentional or part of your processing, but I really like how the darkened edges of the photo lead my eyes directly to the falls. Nice photo and conversion.
Apart from the water itself I especially admire the way you've created interest in the rocks and woods to the sides while keeping them from distracting.
