p.2 #1 · Are you a prime, zoom or a mixed bag guy?

I voted for your 4th Option.

These two are my primary lenses, for shooting sports. Have not found a need thus far, to add the Brick, to my collection: 16-35/2.8 II + 70-200/2.8 IS

I love using this lens, for the various types of Architecture, I enjoy shooting. Also is a unique perspective for portraits: 24/3.5 TS

This is my favorite lens, but sometimes' it is just too long: 300/2.8 IS

Three f4 zooms, one f2.8 zoom, rest primes. So I pretty much belong into the mixed bag category.

I'm a bag of mixed nuts. I voted for f/2.8 zooms, plus a few primes. I also have f/4 zooms, plus a few more primes, but that wasn't an option. My profile lists my current gear, not including the 21 primes and 5 zooms that are going to be flogged on eBay over the next month.

I'm a fast prime guy, with a few fast zooms to help out...that should be an option.

I have a three primes (50 f/1.8, 100 f/2 and the 200 f/2.8 is on its way) for the fast/low light category.

I also have a collection of consumer zooms, because I can't afford the fast zooms.

I'm not going to be one or the other as it'll just depend on the circumstances. I just photographed a bunch of cats with just my 50 f/1.8. I'm sure a 24-70 would have made the job easier, but the 50 worked just fine.

I genuinely love the bokeh my 70-200 F4 produces (although it's not my bokeh lens)

Whose bokeh lens is it then, eh?

F4 zooms (24-105 and 17-40), Sigma 30mm 1.4 and 1.8 50mm. Pretty happy with them all but would love to add the 85mm 1.8.

I could not check any of the options either .

For wildlife work, I and probably most other people use prime telephotos. Not a fan of the few zooms available in that range without IS.

For closer range, I use zooms. But if weight is not an issue (i.e. I am close to car/home), then I pull out my primes for special occasions such as 135 f2/85f1.2 L mostly to get better background blur.

Finally, I carry the 50f1.4 for extra low light capability but admittedly, I rarely use it.

I have f/2.8 zooms, and a fast prime or two.

Primes plus a couple of zooms to help out the odd time.

Four 2.8 zooms, several slower zooms, and 18 primes.

Me thinks, you should compare lineups with Burningheart. You & Robert, might be pretty close

I use primes only. Yes, they are light, and I like that. Yes, they are usually faster than zooms, and that can be helpful on occasion. But what I like most is the simplicity. With a prime, I have one parameter less to adjust, focal length. If I were using a zoom, I would have to optimize two variables at the same time, position and focal length, to achieve composition. With a prime, it is much simpler, and I have to make do with what I have. Now, that is not 100% true, because I usually have more than one prime to hand. But changing lenses is not something I do before haveing exhausted any possibility to get what I want form the lens I have. So this is the second value of shooting primes: it forces me to think, not just to "spray and pray".

The primes (35L, 85L, 135L & 200L IS) are mine.
The zooms (24-70L & 70-200L IS 2.8) are use by family or friends.

I am getting best Canon lenses no meter zoom or primes. For now only two zooms in my bag: 70-200F4L IS and 16-35L mk II + 7 L primes But I would buy more zooms if they become close to primes in IQ!

+1 I'm a "mixed bag" shooter too - primes & zooms - depends on the occasion & the subject matter. I don't have a prejudice against either!

Basically whatever tool will do the job and help me create the image I want in the situations I find myself in. For what I photograph this means a combo of zooms and primes.

23 primes (Canon EF Mount) - 24 if you count the Rokkor and 4 zooms (2 F4, 1 F2.8, one variable).

I voted primes since that is what I mostly shoot.
