Depends on what I'd get for my car. If I got the BB it would be a wash but it has a repaired front bumper and scratches on the rear bumper so it is likely that my camera gear (including everything, cards, cameras, bags, stands, flashes, covers, etc.) is likely worth more than my car is now...or just under it. If I get a super telephoto then my gear will surpass the value of my car for sure.
I ride a motorcyle, and seeing as I don't have tons of gear yet, and it's a used bike, I'd say my camera gear is worth more, but not by much.
The tricky part if getting the camera gear on the motorcycle.
2 bodies (1 FM2 was a gift) 6 lenses, 2 primes, 3 zooms and a lens baby. Flash, extra cables and some diy backdops and simple lighting. 3 tripods and 4 camera bags. Light reflector and various cleaning supplies.
So much more gear I want.
Told a friend I could drop $30k in a camera store if I had it and not bat an eye. IF being the key word.
Yes, my camera gear is worth more than both our cars - but given Canon's price increases, my lenses are worth more than two years ago. Wish I could say the same about my cars.
given canon's price increase and the recent scratches on my car, my 70-200 IS 2.8 exceeds Blue Book on my car
My car is about being able to get me from point A to B and back... the lens, and by extension equipment, is about being able to capture the world.
I would rather spend the money on a new body and get another used car then a new car...
I'm new here, but loved this thread. I'd take a cheap car over getting better lenses anyday!!! Now, my wine.... well I like that too.
This forum is such an inspiration, but now I want to buy a longer lens more than I did before.......
WIthout a doubt the gear is worth more than the one car I own - and the car is an '09 model with only 11,000 miles on it. The photo gear cost more new than the car cost new!
