Lou,

Thanks for the cranberry insight. The 20D did you well. Hope all is well with the pacemaker. Did you need the model with the defibrillator?

I'm gland you stopped by the cranberry farm and for stopping at FM.

Great job Lou. I’ve got to wonder what those egret’s look like when they get out of that pond. The mallards must be interesting as well.

Morris

Thanks Moris. No need to worry about the plumage of the wildlife as the water stays clear. The berrys grow like a vine on the bottom of the bog which remains dry while the growing goes on. When its time to harvest they open a flood gate to the pond and allow the water to flow in over the cranberrys about to knee high. This is when the machine is driven over the Bog and releasing the berry from their vine and they float to the top. This is the reason every Bog has to have four acreas of wetland around it, for the flooding. Pretty cool farming and it beats the heck out of geting the hay in

Sure is interesting, Lou. Hope you are doing better.
They must have some birds around there after that fruit!
makes me thirsty too, Migara!

Thanks Migara and if your thirsty go for it as it is one of the best drinks you can have. Cures everything and improves your sex life Well I think here may be an age limit. With all the Bogs and more better all the marshes, it gives you great photography even in the winter and the snowy comes for his visit along the NAtional Seashore. Pretty good spot for photography of all kinds.

Very cool and educational series, Lou. I am glad you were allowed to shoot these and share with us. Love the shots with the ducks having a feast.

Here's to your good health too!!! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks JJ and yeah its a good thing I was able to get my son to stop. We did not stay long and I had him go back after he droppes me home with the 1 to 400 and he took the mallards in the berrys from a pretty good distance and a few others. Actually the ducks and other birds that frequent the bogs ponds do not eat any of the berrys they feed on their normal diet depending on the species. I had plans for doing a very large Bog on the Mid Cape today but the weather is not good and I do not want to push my implant cut to far. Don not need a do-over

Well Mirek you are most welcome as I am happy to see the great responce to a series like this. I enjoyed spending the 15 to 20 minuets there and was very surprised to see how good the old 20D did with the 28 to 135 IS Macro glass as it is not all that expensive for a lens. I love the Tractor Trailer and how well it came out as the first one is a four frame stitch and about 12 X 38 which I may make a bit larger so I can print it on canvas and do a gallery wrap on it instead of a frame.

Lou, buddy!! Great to hear you and your new ticker are back on the case. Most enjoyable read,
and photos to match. 5lbs, eh glad your Son was on hand, growlers weigh more than that and we
know you need to stay hydrated!! Fast recovery, Lou...you're one of the good guys.

Well Will I once again I tip my DVRC hat to you for these kind words. Thank you very much. So far the pacemaker has kept my pulse up in a notmal range (67 to 70) under normal conditions. Before I would sink to as low as a bear in hibernation (about 30 to 34) in my sleep. Had a tough time getting things right and I fired one cardioligist and finally found one that got things going in some kind of direction and it was a nurse in the ER that spotted the trouble on the monitor. I now had a plan from them and it was the pacemaker and meds. So we will see as I am still healing. I received great service at the Falmouth Hospital on the Cape.
Lou
PS The photos were already ask for by the upper Cape newspaper in high res. and I sent them last night.

Hi Larry and thanks. Not sure what they put in me as I leave that up to the Doc. as I had full faith in the one that decided what was wrong with me. All I can say is it is working perfect so far but in about 6 weeks I will get a fine tuning of it from the Doc.
My God they can check it over the phone line.
As for the cranberrys well that was pure luck as to the timing of myself and my son coming by. A buddy and I have been trying to get a good day to do a photo shoot on several bogs but the weather has been bad. We were suppose to go to a big Bog today but the weather is not good so I will sit this one out.
I can nor remember a time when the 20D let me down othe than some dust spots and having to clean the sensor. It is a very relieable camera to me and will always remain in the wagon with a few lenses.

Thank you Lou. That was a great tutorial on Cranberries and some very nice images.

I've been seeing a commercial for cranberry juice on tv with two guys in waders in the midst of cranberries lately.

I always thought cranberries grew in trees. Shows you what I know.

Cheers,

DeeDee

Well thanks Dee-Dee and sorry to say but no trees but a vine like plant that is a perennial and lays dormant in the winter. As it gets warmer and the berry's come to life they grow along the bog bottom. When the harvest time comes they flood the bog to about knee high and run the harvester machine to free the berry's from the vine and they float to the top where they are formed into a boat just like an oil spill. They are moved by water from the pond to the truck and off to market. As for the commercial you have been seeing well it is almost Cranberry juice time so I would think its a good time for it A real nice drink and good for you.

Lou - These photos are terrific. 20D and a kit lens can do a lot in capable hands such as yours. I am a fan of your photos, but not so much of cranberry bogs in general.

After the harvest, they release the water into streams, rivers, etc. All the fertilizer in the water has nasty effects on down river lakes. The one in our town turns green three months out of the year. - Paul

Paul well there is also a way they can be grown dry but I passed this bog right after the harvest and the pond that feeds it for flooding looked fine. I would think some of the vine gets caught up in the release of the water back into the pond for the wet growing way but it seems to be OK from what I can see. I have not heard anything bad about it but I will ask when I run into the right person. Thanks for the look

Hi Gene thanks for the look and I see you were at Fort Tilden. Interesting place in Whitestone, right? As a young man I used to deliver paint supplys to it from Flushing.
Say will you be going to the Mongaup this year? Must be some eagles still coming in there.
