If MS continues their track record, I'll probably get it after the SP1 is out.
This was Microsoft's largest beta testing program.... it is ready for prime time unlike the release of Vista. but really, I blame the bad Vista rollout on the vendors. They just did not get in line behind vista and a lot of the initial problems were related to crappy drivers.
Overall the look is the same as Vista but its is the improvments under the hood that make it nice. Windows XP mode is awesome as well. I have a video camera that has no drivers for Vista/7 and had to keep an XP install just so I can finish converting all my 8mm home videos... but now I can use my win7 install.

If you go the EDU route do it over the phone 1-877-696-7786. You can get the full install version as opposed to the upgrade version for the same price if you ask for it. I got the full version of win 7 professional and the total cost was 32.09 after tax. Just make sure you have a valid .edu email address.
Well I called them up this afternoon and ordered the Professional Full version. They picked right up; no 30mins on hold. After repeating the spelling for everything about 3 times I think we got it all right. It sounded like she was taking my call from a high school cafeteria there were so many people talking in the background. I went ahead and ordered a DVD since my computer right now can't run the 64bit version and I didn't want the hassle of downloading 3gigs of files. Only problem is I haven't gotten the confirmation email yet, so if I don't have one by tomorrow afternoon I guess I'll have to call them again and check.
a little secret for you. buy the upgrade (which gives you both 32/64 bit versions) for that relatively reasonable price. load it up. do not put in the activation code. reboot and do another but clean install. it will see the previous install and allow you to load and activate w/o needing a previous version.
