Could be hype to SOME extent I suppose, although I tend to believe the many comments from people who have had their hands on the pre-production models and the sample images I've seen vs. the "liar liar pants on fire" routine.
When Thom Hogan figures this will be a worthwhile upgrade for sports shooters due to its high ISO gains vs. the D3, and others with D3 experience are claiming it's a significant improvement, I'm thinking it can't be just a rehash.
add TROLLS to your "list" and it will be more complete. sheesh it is harder all the time to hang out on the web
Where do people get the idea that they just did some noise reducion on the D3 sensor? Nikon has stated over and over again that the D3s is sensor redesign. It's even in the D3s brochure that DJ linked...
"Nikon engineers completely redesigned the image sensor of the D3S".

Has anyone looked at the sample images in the D3s brochure yet? ISO12,800 anyone?

Gman ... you see .... you have to make it simple. It has the same pixel count ... so it must be the same.
I smell resentment in that camp whose lenses won't mount on this new body.

Pavel, don't worry, I still have a few from my N80 days
I just expressed a doubt that CMOS can be improved by a factor of 2, that's it. Boy, I didn't expect it would touch such a nerve!
Sensors have been improved time after time-year after year. Canon just doubled their hi ISO performance (in two steps over less than 2 years) with the transition from D40 to D50 to 7D (same sized 1.6x sensor and more Mp).
Nikon has, primarily, based their upgraded "S" on the extension/improvement of low light performance due to their new FF sensor. Canon, typically, give you a little of both (more MP and better hi ISO). Yes, Nikon uses aggressive NR for their DX line of bodies but the D3s is their top Pro camera. They would be fools to cheat-and they are not fools.
