I'm getting my parts list together so I can build a couple of these packs. Has anyone done a recent build with a different inverter now that the Aims has been redesigned?

apparently Samlex and some others don't work now! i tried with a 400w Wagan that didn't work either! Definitely keep us posted! Thanks!
Where's your source? Aims is the only one confirmed which has design changes. Samlex changed it's look only in 2010.
"I talked to a tech at Samlex who said that the latest 300W unit wouldn't hold up to the max 18a draw for 200ma. He said the last one would have just kept on chugging but the new ones will reset, which they did because of the long warranty they offer and people plugging stuff like toasters and coffee machines and microwaves into them. He did say the 600W unit would be sufficient."
And i personally purchased the Wagan 400w that didn't work...

Geez, I didn't see that part. Out of luck for latecomers.
Nice... Looks like the manufacturers are covering their asses at the expense of an important feature. Maybe someone knowledgeable can find the turn off switch for this reset "feature" even it if is not covered by the warranty. I'm sure like overclocking a CPU it will reduce the lifespan of the product but still people do it.
Bummer! Looks like i'll have to go a little bigger. Does any one know anything about the samlex 'high surge' series of inverters? The SX series. In particular the sx-350. I know it's a bit larger, but wondered if this may work with ab-1600/Einstein. This would still give the option to make something much lighter than a VB2.
I believe that if you could perfect a small portable unit like this it would be embraced by many of us. After close to 30 years in photography (and a PCB customer for 20) I think this would fill a missing link for many of us location photographers.
With an Einstein and your current collaboration with Pocket Wizard the added ability of a small compact battery like this would give us tremendous freedom. For me, if I could just get 100 or so full powered flashes that would serve most all of my current location needs.
These three pieces would give us;
1. A versital high powered unit (via the Einstein)
2. Wireless control that offers both remote manual and auto (via Pocket Wizard)
3. A very compact portable package.
Thanks all these years for listening to your customers!

+1 This has my vote. Would love a light power pack that offers enough power for studio quality lights. Elinchrom has the Quadra.. but... $1500 just to get the basic kit.
I can see an Einstein on a painters pole hooked up to a small (1-2lb) pack.... would make for a killer location/wedding setup IMO.
If anyone can pull off a small...affordable commercial battery product... I would think Paul could.
I would LOVE to have something half the weight of the V2s.
I mean, I guess I can carry it around on my backpack and just plug the light, attached to a boom, into the V2, but it's heeavy to lug it around for a long time for a run and gun type of shoot.
