True, but there is clearly 'enough' demand for Samyang to put them into production, we should be happy about that. I personally prefer to have the option for AF in all but a few select lenses (usually SWA)

How is this a bad thing?
High demand = high prices, so who cares if only a few of us want manual focus glass?
I'm very excited for both the 14mm and the 35mm, though a little less for the 35mm, as I know how hard it is to manually focus at wide apertures and 35mm. Not so concerned at 14mm, as for most stuff, I'll shoot close to infinity, and nearly everything will be in focus anyway...for times when it's not, and I'm very close to something, it makes it pretty easy to manually focus. The 35/1.2, though, will be tough. I love my 85/1.4 (Rokinon branded), but it can be tough to focus if there isn't a lot of contrast in the subject, and they're not still.
The 85 has just been tested by photozone.de for those who are interested.
The 14 would be more interesting to me though, as a ultra wide for my crop. I cant see a problem with the samyang being manual focus, I'd probebly work my hyperfocal thing anyway
this is precisely the lens i've been searching for. an economical, fast, ultra-wide, full-frame lens for taking shots of the milky way. after the sigma 14/2.8 was discontinued, i was beginning to lose hope. now w/ the 35/1.4 on horizon, samyang is my new savior!!
they are making an 35mm f/1.2 for canon, nikon and all other mounts only get a f/1.4 version. i forget the exact reason, some technical difficulty - registration distance and throat size maybe? the source was an interview with somebody in the company don't remember who did it.

In the interview, the rep only confirmed plans for a 35/1.4 to be released in the Spring/Summer. The 35/1.2 for Canon is still a rumor, AFAIK.

Exactly...
ah, well . thought i remembered that being part of the interview. it'd be nice to have a 35mm f/1.2 that fits on a dslr but f/1.4 is good too.

As long as he's consistently low, then the data is valuable. Just have to remember to give it something of a prefactor in comparison with other sites.
A 35/1.4 would be great, a 35/1.2 would be exceptionally enticing, even if wide open is a marginal and f2 ties with a respective 35/1.4 at f2. To have f1.2 for very dark applications would be nice.
If they have a solid core group of glasses and coatings, I'm not surprised they can make some great lenses, which they've shown clearly in the 85/1.4. Sure, they're going to inherit slightly older levels of technology (ie. you're not going to see them put nanocrystal coatings soon), but often that's still better than most lenses available. I.e. they're more likely to adopt middle of the envelope stuff faster than the giant lens makers because their runs are shorter and the nature of their business allows them the flexibility and adaptability that a smaller company has.
