As stated above please comment, I have thick skin and do want to get better.
I like these action shots, Fred. Very detailed and sharp. Even at ISO 2000, I think the results are acceptable. I couldn't have achieved that with my 40D. Well done!

I was afforded the oppurtunity to shoot a High School Playoff game a couple of weeks ago at Aloha Stadium ( same stadium as the past NFL Pro Bowls).
The Game started at 4:30 and ended around 7:00 pm when it is dark out here in Hawaii this time of year.

How to get ACR 5.6? I have CS2 and it does not support.
Is ADOBE PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 8 able to support or I have to buy CS4?
i think elements can use it, but you better verify
cs2 can use it indirectly, first use DNG 5.6 RC (must be 5.6 to do it properly), then open that in CS2, i'm not sure if it works out 100% the same but i think it should be close, not sure what happens if you want to use custom profiles

I was wondering if you had tried your new demosaic algorithm on any 7D files yet and if there is a way that you see to make it handle the 7D well. (and also if it is near release for other canon bodies)

Thanks, but ADOBE PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 8 (trial Version) comes with ACR 5.5 and I am unable to update to ACR 5.6 ( it says cannot install).

I'm a 5D2 user and was recently given a 50D to cover a sporting event. I've not tried the 50D yet. I'm thinking if the 7D would be a significantly better camera for the task.
You've never liked any of the crop cameras for one reason or another in the past. There's no reason why you'll like the 7D. Don't waste your time, better stick to your 5D2.

if you search around i think someone on dpr found out how to do it

No I have not tried it on 7D data. I've been working on NR algorithms. However the porting of the demosaic algorithm to C code has finally begun after a long wait. Hopefully a prototype is only a few months away. I am thinking about methods of dealing with pattern noise, however...
Very interesting indeed coming from Scott, since he dumped Canon for Nikon a while back, and I think about three years ago he said that crop cameras would soon be dead.
Which appears to be about the right size (11MB) for Camera RAW.8bi (32-bit). ""
It is the "1003" file. I wouldn't rename it in place - I'd copy it to a new folder and rename it there so that the original is kept untouched.
Once I renamed that file, I found the one in my Photoshop elements folder (mine is c:/adobe/photoshop elements 7.0/plug-ins/file formats ), and removed the copy of "Camera Raw.8bi" from that folder (put it in a safe place so that you can change back to 5.5 or whatever version you now have) and copied the newly-named version in its place.
The first time you use it, you will be reminded that it is a beta version of Camera Raw.
I'm still playing with it. It did a wonderful job of cleaning up some ISO 12800 pictures I took with the 5D2 last week, but I haven't done much with the 7D's high-ISO shots yet. I'm still a little uncertain on the white balance and color richness as well, but the only test pictures I've played with at high ISO were taken under compact flourescent lighting, which isn't full-spectrum light. Have to do some side-by-side comparisons with DPP in the future.

Scott is talented as a photographer, and I enjoy his media (podcasts / blogs / etc.). I think he knows his gear too. His ego can sometimes get in the way a bit, but he's been more than willing to say he would dump Nikon and go back to Canon if he thought they had the best game in town. He really seems to have no brand loyalty at all... he just wants the best DSLR gear he can get.
Like a good reviewer should, he doesn't turn a blind eye to the noise that nearly everyone with at least one eye sees immediately with their first images.
But he also correctly tempers his visceral response to that with a good explanation of why he believes it's there, and how to handle it.
A VERY GOOD review overall for the 7D. It would be nice if all copies were as good as his.
He says he is using the beta support for ACR. That sounds like 5.5 rather than 5.6, which is a release candidate. There's a big difference between the quality of the two conversions.
