When it comes to not wanting video, you might as well get over it, because it's here to stay, and I will be very surprised if it doesn't show up in every new camera here on out.
Yup, and the simple solution if you don't like it, is to not use it.
I agree that video is going to be part of every camera, I am just saying that even though I am an early adapter, I am weary to be part of the consumer beta testers of a 1D camera which introduces video.
Heck look at all the firmware updates and physical recalls (Mirror box issues) they have had to had some of the latest cameras.
It seems ever since Nikon introduced competition, people have complained more about problems with the Canon bodies.
I realize this could be Nikon "noise", but I am not going to waste my hard earned money finding out.

Agreed. On the 5d classic, chroma noise is OK at 3200 as well
Now that we've gone through the exercises in mental masturbation, anybody have any credible information about the original topic to share. That doesn't include "funny" comments that are obviously, well, not funny

The only credible rumour I know of is Panasonic is releasing a competitor to the Oly Ep-1, that looks like the LX-3, with 4/3 sensor. If Canon is releasing something, and it is confirmed that they are holding a press conference on the 19th, they have been leak proof. Have they ever not announced a new DSLR in August?

Well, they'd be wrong IMO. The Mark II series was great!
However, if they wanted to bash Canon for releasing 'highly questionable" and "shortsighted/shortchanged" bodies for the last 3-4 years, I'd be jumping on that band wagon in a heart beat. I'd have to elbow my way to the front though as there would be legions of 'unfortunately experienced" users trying to get on there too.

Oooooh. I just love prognostication. Did you predict the 50 f/1.2's inability to focus too?
Please let me know next time so I won't spend the money. I could have saved B&H shipping costs both ways too
I sometimes do this too (prognosticate that is) when it comes to Canon... I simply imagine what I want and what a great camera would have using today's technology, and then juxtapose that with the "other" option. The "other" option can be divined by identifying those capabilities and features that if either present or missing would produce a half-baked solution full of shortcuts and compromises and then voila! Canon releases it. It's like magic.
Sadly, I'm expecting a little prestidigitation from Canon on the 19th. Someone will quickly stick a "IV" or "V" on a 1D3, issue new firmware that enables video, and slap a new and very much improved (for Canon anyway) price tag on it, all to much fanfare. Everyone will go "Wow"...."I gotta get me one of them. Sign me up".

Well, I expected an excellent superfast standard prime, given Canon's ample experience with those in the past......both EF and FD types. Canon must have known they were placing an anomalous EF 50 f/1.2 design into production, yet I guess the feeling was "It's good enough.". Perhaps they were right.......the lens is indeed "good enough" in my opinion as well, just that it doesn't quite exemplify lens making excellence.
As far as the Mk IV cameras are concerned, you might be onto something there. Canon SLR Division's ego as well as earnings have probably been bruised by the Mk III caper. The question is if they have sufficient financial incentive, managerial and technical talent to rehabilitate themselves in a true and decisive manner now. I kinda doubt it. Canon know that a large pool of their buyers will go for trinkets and glittery beads again. They know that many will buy 1D Mk IV cameras because they are new, because they are expensive and because they can.
Not that I don't mind bashing Canon, but can you guys either give it a rest or open a new thread specifically for bitching? We all get it - Canon has been doing subpar work for the last 3 to 4 years. That horse is long dead, but if you must how about forming a task force? You know, with pitchforks, torches and all the trimmings.

Personally, I couldn't care less for the voice recorder function on the DsIII.
Oh man, that is my favorite feature on my 1D Mark II. Working as a PJ, it means I don't need to carry around a pad of paper to get names/information for captions. Its half the reason I scarcely use my 5D these days.
Definitely hoping to see video on the Mark IV, would love to branch out a little and learn more about shooting video with stellar quality at no added cost (except maybe a shotgun mic).
What ever this Mark IV becomes, all I hope for (over the Mark III) is 1080p video and the new screen on the back. Beyond that, pure gravy in my opinion.
When it comes to the 1D4 specs, I personally don't want Canon to reinvent the wheel. If that's the case, then the price tag will be somewhere in the stratosphere!! I think they should keep what works, get rid of what's not wanted/needed, improve on what's needed, and add what's missing. By "warming over" a 1D3 in this way, they could (in these economic times for them and us) produce a great next gen 1Dx body for a very reasonable price. Sure, I don't want a new logo painted on an old body, but there are several shortcomings and missing features that could be incorporated into Canon's existing engineering and manufacturing process that could economically produce a great successor to the 1D3.
Maybe Canon could create a new camera line that has all the whistles and bells of every major camera out there. There would be so many bugs in it and it would cost so much, it could fuel millions of forums threads just like this, with a virtually unlimited reasons to gripe. Oh, and what about the cost to Canon? I'm sure all the recall and rework costs would have them filing for chapter 11 in no time!!
But that's just my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions!!

lol, it will never stop unfortunately, until they lock one thread at the top permanently that is titled: Wants, Wishlists, Rumors, Speculations and Rants
And even then it won't stop, but it certainly would contain most of it.
"...I have a new Canon coming. I guess Canon's got my number, I don't even have to order them anymore. There was a lot of grinning and dancing around any questions I had, but I was told I'd have it within the month and I'd like it. As Inspector Clouseau would say, "I will bring you up to speed, I know nothing! You are now up to speed!" My guess is, it's a 1D III sequel, but again, there was no info given to lead me to believe that, just instinct. I love a new camera "
This is a quote from a credible person on the City/Still life section.

Yes, that must be so nice. It is a shame canon disabled it on the 5D2 (which does have the mike).
