Of course if you mean creative as in models, set dressing, props, wardrobe and overall production values you'll have to look elsewhere -- I'm not a fashion photographer.
no, I mean that most of the sample shots (before these recent ones were posted) all seemed like they were just the PLM blasting straight ahead with no regard for aesthetically pleasing light.

I wouldn't call these boring, certainly not from a lighting standpoint. I think they really showcase the effect of the silver PLM. Thanx
you are really making me want to purchase one.... I worked out how to use them with my elinchrom using the "stock" umbrella hole through the head... now I just need to come up with the cash....
quick update to the discussion... just used my PLM's on a two day catalogue shoot with models... light looks great but keep an eye out for the umbrella shaft sticking out of the light or you might loose it (an eye that is).
Bent down to mark the light position with tape and upon standing back up my eyelid found the end of the shaft. Could've been ugly but just a cut on my lid - lucky .... off to buy a foam ball to stick on the end.
you've just got to cut the shafts off, and slide a 1/4" stainless rod into the existing shaft.... You just have to make sure you cut it low enough that it doesn't interfere with the little spring thing that holds the umbrella open. (made that mistake 1st on my wescott umbrella)

Good solution. I'm working on 7mm short shafts and improved quality for the next release - probably 2-3 month before available.
the PLM and the PLM Front Diffuser Fabric for the 86" are both on backorder status right now, so I was wondering when they might ship? I placed an order and sent an e-mail to info@paulcbuff last week, but I haven't heard back yet(I only sent the inquiry on Friday though). Others might be wondering as well, so I thought that it might help others here that are curious. I'm looking forward to testing out the product and posting my results!
I received an e-mail from Barbara at PaulCBuff today saying that they would be have the PLM's by the end of the month and start shipping them out in the order that the backorders were placed by customers. Her e-mail had a link to the PaulCBuff tech support forum, wherein I read Paul's latest post from Jan 10 saying that some version 1 PLM's will be arriving by air, perhaps next week. And also that they may receive the version 2 PLM's from their new vendor before the rest of the version 1's from their original flaky vendor.
Here's the link to the forum, in case anyone else is interested in this more direct access to Paul's announcements:
I just wanted to chime in. I just a few minutes ago opened my package from PCB containing my first PLM. I can't wait to use it. It is very nice quality, nice features. I plan to buy some larger ones too, but def. like the one I just got and that is without even using it yet. I can tell it will give different results just looking at it.
It'll be awhile. I'm hoping that it will come in before christmas Producing umbrellas is no easy task in regards to meeting Paul's expectations and specifications. The demand is absolutely there for these plm v2's, so the revision has to correct the design flaws off the first run.

I got one of the largest PCB Umbrellas about a month ago. Very nice and frankly it's worth every penny if nothing else just to impress a client. Makes you look like a pro even if your not.
