If they reversed it from what the image is on the first page here then it doesn't surprise me because what they want to do is keep the eye on the page. Since people that read the magazine are going to be reading left to right the eye also scans the image left to right. If the subject matter is on the left the eye will stay in the image but if leading out to the right then the eye tends to go on to the right and out of the image.

I was positioned at almost full-frame to leave a bit of room for balancing later in PP. This was cropped to about 75% of original.
