Sorry Norm! I was working on this shot last night and earlier this evening before I noticed your entry. Not trying to steal your title or theme.
Regarding the photo, it's not perfect but have you ever tried to macro photo your own eye from profile. I took nearly 100 shots and never did get my iris perfectly in focus. However, I think the shot works with the hobby knife sharply focused.
I didn't shoot the knife while near my eye, I used my hand for a background on that and layered the shot. I'd do many things for photography, but losing an eye for it seems counterintuitive
Probably my only attempt this week. Busy, busy, busy
Your shot reminds me of when I had LASIK surgery!
Cool shot, and I can definitely sympathize with trying to get your own eye in focus. I'm glad I'm not the only one who took over 100 shots to get one I liked. My experience wasn't for this challenge but for another photo contest. I ended up using a macro lens with extension tubes and letting the lens autofocus. It still took patience and creative positioning, but it ended up working for me. I know there have to be better ways though.
I looked over my 100 shots and did find one or two that I could've used with a more in-focus iris, it was hard to discern because of the narrow DoF. I found that the iris being in focus is diminishing to the blade's impact. Also, the eye-lashes became blurry and distracting.
Anyway, sometimes the reason we choose a certain shot is based on how we like it's look and not on it's individual technical merits. So I'm standing on my original entry?!
See the blood vessels in the eye straining to see the point!
Chris
Actually the blood vessels in the eye were a result of flashing my eye at close range nearly 100 times Not recommended for anyone thinking of trying it.
