epuja, Can you PM me your email - or better yet your phone number? As a result of this thread - which you instigated - I felt compelled to satisfy my long standing desire to own & use an 85L. I bought one, on eBay at a "good" price, but I'd far rather you explain the necessity of the purchase to my wife than I.
Thanks & good luck - believe me, I'm wishing you well.

Firstly, congratulations on your purchase!!
In this time of economic recession, I can practically guarantee you that the resale value of your 85L (bought at a 'good' price) will maintain higher value than other 'investments' including cash.
Just think - If they ever discontinue the 85L (like the 50mm F/1L or the Nikon 28mm f/1.4) the prices will skyrocket!!!
Anyway - wives don't understand all this ROI stuff.
Just tell her her pics look so so hot when using the 85L - speaking of which, where are they?
Prior to dispensing my phone number, may I introduce you to another fine lens? the 24L II? Unfortunately it would be harder to find used though, there are a few images here (https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/786194/0). It complements the 85L very nicely.

Thank-you epuja, but I have a feeling you are the "corrupting" new friend my parents always warned me about. Perhaps more importantly, I recently became acquainted with the 35L & was rather taken with her charms & subsequently (for a while at least) have eyes for no other wide prime. But please, don't let that fact deter you from singing it's praises to my better half!

Something for Paul (Cogitech) : Grandpa
Thanks. Interesting to watch the price of these rising. They could be had between $450-$500 only 6 months ago, even cheaper if you were lucky. They seem to be consistently between $600 and $900 now, even at KEH.com. The SSC Asphericals (Great Grandpa) go even higher, as much as $1500 (Kevin, of course. http://cgi.ebay.ca/Canon-FD-85-1-2-S-S-C-ASPHERICAL-10207-Minty-Case_W0QQitemZ390043303462
All things considered, I got a helluva deal on my SSC Asph.

Paul......why is that Kevin's lens so expensive ? What am I missing here ? (Sorry, this is the first time I hear of Kevin)
Kevin has notoriously high prices, but he has also cornered the market on many sought-after lenses. He has many of the SSC Asphericals, more than you will find anywhere else, and they are all priced accordingly.
Check out his inventory and prices here: www.kevincameras.com
