Aha. I think I understand. You meant a diffuser on the light source? Interesting. This was lit by natural shaded light coming in from a window. The shell itself is white and shiny, which is precisely why I liked it as a subject but also why it reflects so much of the already diffuse light. i set it on a piece of black cloth to shoot it. I've often used the same light source for other of my shots. Anyway, it was my artistic decision to try to let the light show off the texture of the shell. Maybe that was a mistake, but certainly the light source couldn't have been any more diffuse.
