What ever happened to the new medium format system that everyone was talking about a few months ago??
With todays economy, and considering the current line up, I wouldn't expect much in the near future. All those who have been holding their breath waiting for an 80-400 AFS, or a f4 300 VR must be turning blue by now.

Nikon will release some fast G-series primes i.e. 24/1.2 ... 35/1.2 ... 50/1.2 and 85/1.2. Well, if they want to be a DSLR market leader, they will have do this. How else can they claim to be superior to Canon?
Exactly. I'd love to see a comparable 35/1.4 and 135/2, with SWM. Also at the very least, an 85/1.8 with SWM.

I'm sure Nikon's argument is they HAVE something comparable to the 70-200/f4 in the 70-300VR. Fairly close speed on them, and the Nikon's actually great bang for the buck. But your point is well taken regardless.
I'd like to see an update to the 300/f4 AF-S, adding nano optics and VR. I think that would have a real place in the lineup, and also a new 180mm f2.8 VR. Both would be significantly cheaper than their top-pro counterparts (the 300/f2.8VR and 200/f2VR). And I bet they'd both sell like hotcakes.
Not to mention a 120-300mm f2.8. That'd be cool for sports guys....Show more →
Oh man. A Nikkor 120-300/2.8 would be perfect.

Big gap between SB-600 and SB-900 -- that'd be something to fill in and cheap and easy for them to do (minimal R&D costs in a recession). Some lenses. They probably have the D300 replacement ready and are waiting for either a better economy or a competitive reason to launch it.

I personaly do not understand the positioning of the D5000 and its price tag when compared to the D90...
Simple, it is for those who want video, not just those who say "yes...nice to have it, don't use it much". The swivel screen makes video so much easier to use. I'd expect all the skateboard kids to buy one
I recently talked to a Nikon rep in Dallas and asked him when to expect replacements for the 85 1.4 with an AFS version as well as a replacement for the 70-200 AFS VR. The response I got was that Nikon will continue to upgrade and expand its current offerings and it would not be unreasonable to expect to see a replacement for the 80-400 by mid summer 2009.

Do a search for it on Nikon cafe forums. Either way, AF-S and the usual updates wouldn't go amiss (sp?). In any case, with the price increases, I would probably end up with a manual AIS lens, than spend the cash that one of the DC lenses demands.

What body are you using it on? The problem I've heard was more widely documented on FF as opposed to DX. Who knows. Either way, if I were to go for the 105 F2 DC, I guess I'd just be sure to make sure I could return it if I did encounter such problems....Show more →
I just thought I would chime in here. I have owned the 105 f/2 and currently own/use the 135 f/2 and have had no focusing problems with either one. Both lenses are stellar.
FWIW, if you carefully read the thread on Nikon Cafe, Nikon ended up replacing the D700 & lens. If it was a problem with just the lens, why replace the body also? Also the Nikon technician stated he was going to bring in his 105 f/2 that works great and without any issues with his own D700 to test with the body that eventually was replaced........

Since I bought my very own sigma 50-500, they will prolly update the 80-400VR I passed up because it lacked AF-S
True, the 80-400 is overdue for an update.
Have you tried panning with both lenses? The Sigma may work good but it is a real toad. You will soon have Pop-Eye arms or switch to the Nikkor like I did.
On a D3 the 80-400 really comes to life, so I doubt if I will upgrade for AFS and VRII.

What's next? D700X with tilt LCD, FullFrame video and 10mp images in DX mode.
It should come out before Christmas + more FullFrame (FX) Lenses.
It won't have a tilt LCD, because that would mean it didn't share all its parts with either the D700 or D3x. This one is going to be straight out of existing parts bins (and why not?)
