If I have read correctly, the D3 crosspoints work up to f5.6
I'm sure that is correct. However, these crosspoint sensors have the same standard precision as the linear sensors (just in two directions) whereas the Canon pro crosspoint sensors offer three times higher precision in one direction than in the other.
Also, you get no AF at f/8 with the Nikon system. That seems like a bummer at first thought but I have not enjoyed using single-sensor AF with my 600mm L and 2x TC and so I would not miss AF at f/8 unless it worked with more sensors.

I'm confused that so many users think that switching is such "a kick in the cherries". Lenses, both here in B&S and on other venues hold their value very well. There is some loss when selling a body, but overall, if one is careful not to "give away" their old lenses, its not the astronomical expense that so many cite as an excuse not to switch.
... clearly a photographer from the USA The rest of the world wears a loss - often significant - when selling lenses.

I am also considering the loss associated with smaller items that are dedicated to a system. Flash units (3), timer releases, offshoe cords, spare batteries, and plates, just to name a few. I also see Nikon new prices as slightly higher than Canon new prices for lenses, and I assume that a percentage of that would carry over to used prices. As for bodies, I'm not talking about one......more like three, and as you have already pointed out those losses are a little higher.
I guess it would depend on your definition of "kick", and how tough are your "cherries".
True enough Richard but I managed to flog my 580EX2s (x2), cable releases, offshoe cords and spare batteries along with SHDC cards pretty easily and for a good price. Luckily the Wimberley plates are pretty much the same so I didn't need to buy new versions of those.
I guess it will come down to how much you like the D3 once you have got it and gotten used to it.

I sure hope your right....it would certainly soften the blow. It's those $50.00 to $250.00 items that we seem to have so much of that don't hold much value. What would you estimate the swapped cost you? PM if you like.
