Are you saying you used the 'ring of fire'?

All shots below using 45point in AI servo. Normally, I would shoot single point, I wanted to try out the outer focus points. In the past we had poor results at times using 45 point.

Gees Chad,
Only you would know.
The stuff you post is always pretty much magic.
If you have found the keeper rate is where you want it then all I can say is

Luckily Photoshop has a blur tool so you can maintain your normal standards of photography after this disturbing news, Chad.

According to the Canon website, here is what the Firmware fix is for. It doesn't say anything about focus. You are supposed to send in your camera to the Virginia facility because of a Hardware Failure Issue they are calling it to get fixed.

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=139&modelid=14999#DownloadDetailAct

This firmware update (Version 1.2.5) incorporates the following fixes.

Corrects a phenomenon in which a displayed image becomes pitch-black if it is zoomed in on during Live View shooting.
Corrects a phenomenon in which "busy" may continue to appear on the camera if the USB cable is disconnected during USB communication.
Changes the error indications that are displayed on the camera. The error indications are further clarified to make the causes of errors easier to identify, and so that adequate support can be provided to our customers.

Firmware Version 1.2.5 is for cameras with firmware up to Version 1.2.3. If the camera's firmware Version 1.2.5 has already been installed, it is not necessary to update the firmware.

As to the Hardware Fix, you should have received an e-mail from Canon that had info and told you to click on a link that brings you here:

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&fcategoryid=215&modelid=15710&keycode=2112&id=56399

Did you get that e-mail? If not, I hope this helps you and others.

Massive!!! I hope mine comes back as good as that ~ I could never use the ring ~ 100% oof guaranteed. I'm afraid I assumed all 1DMKIIIs were the same ~~~ I am now eagerly looking forward to my camera's return.

Excellent.

Thanks Dee dee, I sent mine to Jamesburg, NJ. "Mark III Firmware 1.2.5 with the fix from Jamesburg, NJ:" they are doing the fix as well.

Here's what they sent back with the camera.

We have examined the product according to your request. and, it was found
that the adjustments of the AE assembly was incorrect causing inaccurate auto
focus from time to time. All repaired and corresponding testing have been completed to Canon Factory standards. Firmware was updated to the latest version. Adjusted exposure & focus, cleaned C-mos and checked all factory specs.

No I'll just need half of a D3...LMAO JK, Chadda....I really need the time and the oportunity to shoot BIFs. They all seem to fly AWAY from me so i never get any good BIF shots.
