that scene has so little detail, color range and depth that the lens doesn't matter much (nor does the camera)
the reflections in the windows vary more than the lens to lens variation
take pics of something with a wide color range and lots of detail

Almost all lenses perform well at f/5.6.
Let me be a bit evil for a second. A small challenge to anybody interested:
Here are three 100% crops shot with three different lenses - the 70-200 mk2, a 18-135 (7D kit lens) and a 135L. Can you tell them apart? I have stripped the metadata from the files, so no point in trying to cheat
Lenses:
-Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II @ f/5.6
-Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-f/5.6 @5.6
-Canon EF 135mm f/2.0L @ f/5.6
hehe, this is not fair - we are talking FF here - crop cam can get away with most lenses easy @5.6 1=70-200, 2=18-135, 3=135L
The correct answer, is:
1) Canon EF 135mm f/2.0L
2) Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-f/5.6
3) Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II
Bearmann got it right
Gupta: I'll see if I can devise a better test tomorrow - something that includes a bit more detail. The problem is that it tends to get a bit obvious then
One and three are close, but one is better slightly in resolution and contrast I'd say. I have to believe the 135L is better. Having said that, 1 and 3 are very close in these crops. The middle one doesn't keep up with the other two, though I'm many would be happy with it, particularly if not blown up much.
(assumes LV focusing and mirror lockup, etc for equal treatment).
I am not sure the AF point you used is CROSS type sensor, I avoid to use the none-type AF points if I can, unless shooting in the day light or the subjects have very good contrasts etc...
BTW--also the AF point seems off for where it should be though....
I have two brilliant lenses in the 135L and 70-200 F/4L IS. Having said that my 135L wide open is sharper than my zoom at F/4.
Stopped down the zoom is sharper than my 135L, 85 L II, 35L, 50L, and any Leica lens I've ever shot with.

Oh, this is so exciting!!! I think I'll retire now while at the top of my game. I've PM'ed you my mailing address for the 70-200L II grand prize.

Hmm, why does this make me think that the world is ready for a Nigerian 419 scam, aimed at photographers. You know:
Subject: Dear respected one
With warm heart I offer my friendship, and my greetings, and I hope this letter meets you in good time. It will be surprising for you to receive this proposal from me since you do not know me personally. I am writing you in respect of a foreign customer who has a Big Lens account in my photo store.
His name was Photographer Ansel adams. He was among those who died in a plane crash. Since the demise of this our customer, Photographer Ansel adams, who was a photographer, I have kept a close watch of his lenses and cameras and since then nobody has come to claim the 25 canon L-class lenses in his collection, including a canon 70-20 f/0.28 VR III.
Based on the reason that nobody has come forward to claim the lenses as next of kin,I hereby ask for you to send an application to his photo store as he next of kin to the deceased and get his lenses transfered into your foreign photo kit for mutual sharing between myself and you,%5 for charity, 5% for expences we will incure just in case, 35% for you and 55% for me. Also please send $500 to my account that I will provide in order for me to secure the release of the lenses.
All I need is for you to follow my instructions closely because I am experienced in lens matters here and i am on ground here to advice you on every step until you receive the lenses.
God bless,
Harri Chettiar-Brezon, Nigerian Assiciation of Photographers ...Show more →
Check out some shots I got today-- first day with the lens... What I can say is WOW! The iq, build, and everything else is incredible. I guess I should expect it with spending $2500- but its worth it.

THANKS!!! Yeah the 7D :-) An awesome dslr. I am surprised I got such awesome shots... pure skill HAHA JK! The lens is definitely worth it for stunning iq. The AF is also extremely fast, and the buttons on the side to change from which kind of focus helps a lot. I have to get a little bit better with birds and the 7D. I have got to be fast and accurate with where I am aiming the lens lol. Thanks again
Dang... I replaced an older Mark I with a new Mark I about a year ago... I think I may still have to get me one of these, even though my newer Mark I is a dandy example of its ilk.
to buy it i am going to sell my 70-200f4L IS, 200f2.8LII , and now i am think about selling 135L too, do you think its a good idea? because it seem its extremely sharp and 2.8 with IS seems like very good combination.
