Great shot! I just love it.

Your photo brings up a very large question in my mind though. I've only recently become quite serious about photography and Im really nervous about taking pictures of perfect strangers. If you dont mind me asking, how did you approach this shot? It doesnt seem like you asked her permission to take her picture - it looks very spur of the moment, if you know what I mean. How do people react to that? Id love to shoot candid shots of people but Im concerned about their reactions.

Dont know if I should be asking this here - but hey, it's a spur of the moment question.

Thanks so much,
Sarah

Fantastic shot. She's in sort of a trance with all that's around her. You really should also enter this one into the monthly 'order...chaos' assignment....

This is almost exactly the image that I was going to submit for the Monthly. Good job!

Excellent

It is also the shot that I wanted to do, but didn't find time for. I was going to call it "alone in a crowd"

I assume the girl is known to you - you would have needed to ask her to be very still.

Great shot! When I thought about possible shots for this assignment, I didn't think of something like this.

Thanks for all the comments. Im very excited, this begin my second post and all.

To answer a common question, I did know her, she went as my 'assistant' and ended as my model Of course, she wanted to model and it took only a brief comment to get her to pose. She's a great model (possibly reading this), though we've done only this shoot toghether.

Sarah: I have exactly the same problem as you do. It's very delicate to take pictures of strangers, and Ive found I still have to find the courage to do that without sweating my palms off. A few pointers Ive read here and there have help though: 1) Never hide your camera or seak upon people: they'll probably see it and the reaction will be worse. Show it to them, ask for permission, be kind, etc. 2) Act a role (if you are not a role already): photography student, tourist, photograph hero. Anyway, we have to go for it and risk a few negatives. Good luck for us!

I'll probably submit it for the MA. thanks for the encouragement.

I voted your photograph for winner of this WA. I get this feeling as if everything around her is washing over her. The pose is fantastic, almost like she is holding on as the wave of people crashes over her but at the same time she is oblivious to it all. In any event, well done!

A tad off topic, but your assistant reminds me of Rachel Weisz. Probably best known in the States for her role as the leading lady in the Mummy films.

Thanks for the support. I'll make sure she reads your comment, Ive never connected her to the actress, but they do have some resemblance.
