That's a really great and unique image! Never seen anything like it before. Your description of the technique was very good. I noticed you just held the shutter button down, but I guess you could also achieve a similar effect using a timer remote or similar.

Thanks. I'm just a poor college student who can't afford such luxuries!

This is really amazing! Never seen anything like it. Very clever idea.

Thanks for sharing your technique. You did a great job explaining. Wish more people on here would do that!

Very cool. Traffic jam is right. It looks like you captured both aircraft on final into SeaTac as well as a few higher up circling. It's the only thing I can think of that would account for the U-Turns on the right.

Yes, most were landing at Seatac, with exception to a few that were headed toward Boeing Field. The ones that you see with curved paths were way off in the distance and had nothing to do with Seatac. Since you are viewing this as a two-dimensional image, it's very difficult to see any depth and judge the distances between flight paths. I don't think they were making u-turns, but were instead heading south and had just made a turn to the east.

You should try the photoshop (if you have it) action provided here:

http://www.schursastrophotography.com/software/photoshop/startrails.html

Makes combining the images much easier!

[edit] Sorry, just noticed that you commented on something similar to this on your flickr page. As long as you're happy with the end result (and from the looks of it, you should be), the work is well worth it.

Haha, no need to be sorry. I'm actually surprised you read through all that. Thanks for at least thinking of bringing this up!
