p.3 #1 · 18mm shootout: Zeiss vs Zuiko

While we are talking about the 18mm Distagon, isn't it true that the MM version
hangs up the mirror on a 5D? I thought the AE version was required unless some
surgery is done on the lens or the mirror. Is that the case?

The MM version hangs on my 5D, which is a bummer. I have never tried an AE version. Some 5D users report having no problems with either MM or AE, some say MM is bad but AE is okay, and some say neither work. It's best to go to the shop and try it out for yourself. But do it surreptitiously as the mirror hits the rear element, not the retaining ring. The rear element sticks out.

I think there are very slim chances an 18mm would work on a 5D. The mirror does hit the rear element, and you will get a scratch in the lens coating. I learned this on my expense.
