Don't think Nikon is perfect. When I bought my D300, we had to go through five bodies at the camera shop before we found one that focused properly. There was a run of serial numbers and every one of the bodies in that run would not focus. When they pulled a body off the shelf that had a different serial number run, it worked. Been working perfectly ever since.
The strange part was that the demo body in the showcase also didn't focus right, but no one had complained.

Why? Prior to the M8 debacle (and hey, it was their first ever digital camera) I'm not aware of any issues.....?
the m8 was not leicas first digital camera....there was the dmr which mated to the r8 and 9....and it was not all smooth sailing either...
and quality control with film bodies for every manufacturer was a far different animal than quality control with, for lack of a better term, consumer electronic devices which is basically what these digital cameras are..

The new Canon service outfit in Switzerland is Sertronics in Spreitenbach and Gland. They also took over Chako in Delemont where I used to get very good service. Apparently Sertronics services for Canon in other countries, so maybe they have experience. They say a repair or lens calibration turn around should be within a week. That would be a lot better than IT Services.
No place I know of in Switzerland has the 5D Mark II yet, do tell your secret source.
Update on my story: 5DII went to Sertronics, they kept it for 2 and a half week. Came back last Tuesday, working. On Saturday it refuses to power on again..... fed up with Canon !!!!!!
I have bought a lot of canon stuffs, including the 5dII, and never have a single problem. only problem, I needed to calibrate once my old 28-70L, and my Canon service center (Montreal) did it in a week for 80$, cleaned as a new one as well... I am sad for all those stories, but people who are satisfied with Canon gears should speak out louder these days...

I must say I've not heard of the problem before with the 5D. I just read that link and wow, that is bizarre. It would be incorrect for me to say it's the same problem, since I don't know, but looks like it might be.
Whatever it is though, it is so poor QC as to be embarrassing.
Are they using Post-It note glue to hold the cameras together these days?
A mirror coming loose due to its adhesive failing is not a QC issue...its a design issue (ie specifying an adhesive that isn't quite suitable). People are too quick to jump on the QC bandwagon when laying blame...
I have no idea if it's a design problem or not. And I'm quite certain that at this time, no-one does. Does anyone know if it was a worker putting it together who was cutting corners? Did Canon have the correct glue, but did someone else make a mistake.
But I don't think I am too quick to make a conclusion. Whether you call it 'laying blame' or something else, this is a rather ridiculous situation. Quite frankly, the post pissed me off. Bandwagon?
