By the same token, it wasnt *really* necessary to create a new camera mount for EF-S lenses. By creating a new mount and making it physically incompatible with non EF-S cameras, they effectively locked out the market for older 1.6x Canon bodies.
Well not quite . . . Most of the EF-S lenses would certainly physically mount onto any DSLR, but a FF would have problems with the mirror hitting the very back of the lens element. Not what I consider a good thing. This is just one reason, but ya, its the same theory of limiting their product . . .
I got my extra battery from Adorama only a few weeks after ordering my 5DM2 (from Ritz, never again). I then ordered my 5DM2 from Adorama and lo behold, its here before I even heard anything about my Ritz order (ordered from ritz in Oct).
I just ordered 4 more batteries from adorama and 4 cards so hopefully I will see them soon
I bought a few in Tokyo this week. The camera and batteries are available at many stores... About $80 for the battery.
However, aftermarket batteries are out and can be found as cheap as $30-shipped. Just google or check ebay.
