Another vote for the EF 24 f2.8:

...and a vote for a big_is focus confirm adaptor with Olympus 21 f3.5, 24 f2.8, or 28 f3.5. Here's the Oly 28 f3.5 on a 450D:

The lens with adaptor should only cost $100 or so.

With your budget you could even go for a Contax 28 f2.8 with a big_is adaptor.

you know......

just because you have a zoom...does not mean you have to use it....

you can shoot forever with out touching that zoom ring

with $$ in mind a decent zoom buys you a whole slew of primes...

There are lots of reasons to use primes:
size
weight
price
aperture
image quality

But for me, the most important reason is that primes force you to think about whence the picture should best be taken in a way that zooms don't. Zooms encourage you to think about composition, whereas primes force you to think about perspective. Perspective is more important.
