I made this change to my 24 TS-E a couple of years ago, the screws are amazingly tight considering how small they are, so it's seriously important to get the correct screwdriver... Technique is important too, because you need to apply a downward force appropriate to the torque required to loosen the screws. Not enough downward pressure = stripped heads.
The screws on mine are definitely not pozidriv, I used the largest phillips driver I could fit in there.
Jeffrey, you should have heard of pozidriv, because if you come across pozidriv screws, phillips drivers don't fit properly...
Hi Folks. Here is an update. I received my Pozidrive screw driver, made by Wiha, #262/PZ0 x 50. Perfect fit, works like a charm.
Unfortunately, I had damaged one screw head of the 4 in my attempt a few weeks ago to remove it with a small normal Phillips screwdriver. The new Pozidrive screwdriver removed the undamaged screws with no sweat what so ever, but the cross in the head of the fourth screw was too damaged to be turned, even by the Pozidrive. I'm in the process of removing the damaged head with a drill bit, and with the back of the lens then removed, I should be able to grab the remaining shaft of that screw with a needle nose pliers and back it out. The lens will be fine with the rear remounted using just the three good screws, but I think I'll try to get a replacement from Canon, or some other source.
Maybe I can just call Jamesburg and ask them to mail me one new screw. (How much could it be? $10 or $20, or so... tee hee :-)
I had the same experience - the first try left me with a slightly stripped head, THEN I got good tools, and with a lot of pressure on the head I was able to remove even the messed up screw.
I would not have used a drill bit - there you're ahead of me; I would have sent it in then
Drill bit removal of the damaged screw head, and pliers removal of the shaft all worked perfectly.
I received the replacement screw from Canon. (I actually ordered 8 because they were only 30 cents each. Shipping was $6 :-)
The part number for the screw is YA2-0317.
The parts department at Jamesburg is at (866) 481-2569 or (800) 828-4040
All is good.
Cheers!
Good man!
I've heard people calling for an update of the TS lenses, at least the 24, hoping for better corner sharpness, etc. What I haven't heard is any great cry for a simpler system of rotating the adjustment axis. Maybe there should be a simple clamping screw like the ones for tilt and shift but just to allow rotation of one relative to the other?
I don't yet have a TS. Maybe I can dream that this will come with a Mark II this year!

They could learn from the Hartblei lenses where the tilt and shift axis can be set at any angle to each other.
