I'm going on a safari in Kenya next week. And I need your opinion and help on choosing an extender to go with my 70-200 f/2.8L IS. I was thinking of the 1.4x extender due to its quality over the 2x extender. But I was just worried about the reach it'll get.
If you guys are interested to know, I'm bringing using my 1d mrk3, Sig 12-24, and a 24-70L. Need your advice urgently.
Thanks guys! Appreciate it.
I was there using a 1D classic the 50 f/1.4, 28-135 f3.5-5.6 and the 70-200 f/2.8 IS with 1.4X and 2X converters.
I used the 1.4X much more than the 2X due to it having better quality, but the 2X is very acceptable if you can shoot at around f/8.0-f/11 which is not a problem most of the time.
I used the 70-200 with or without both extender's only when on safari, I used the 28-135 for all trekking etc and I used the 50mm while climbing mount Kenya and mount kilimanjaro.
Overall I was very happy with the results, Yes a longer lens would have been better BUT I had the 70-200 so I bought both extender's and I'm happy with my choice.
