That's my personal site, and the video is optimized to run on a 2000 kb/s connection. I'm testing the bitrate calculations on the video to see if they match. The video is 13mb is size, which is over what I recommend for intro videos but I don't want to go smaller than 640 px wide. It caters to the average US internet connection speed. Total FLV bitrate is 2000 mb/s so you should be able to view it.
I'm in a VERY rural area, and all I have available to me is mobile broadband. Basically 3G for cell phones. My connection doesn't even hit 1 mb/s. My video plays, but chops. I'm hoping it plays smoothly for you.
Even with my 600kb/s connection (yup...less than 1 mb/s), MOST showit sites will load and display properly (the videos will not...as expected with a connection that's only double the speed of dial up).
The site loaded straight away ..... but the video intro was abysmal - which was a shame as it looked full of great stuff - it was choppy all the way through - I even tried o go back to it after looking at the rest of the site and it was the same.
I did get tired of the "one moment please" with the racing dots on the galleries - but some wicked material in there !!!
Do the sites not come with a normal slideshow ?
Overall it is a shame and must be as I'm in the UK .......
Hey Simon,
Thanks for those kind words I really appreciate that. I knew it was borderline, but I did think it would play for you. Showit Sites does have a video player which allows you to pause the show until it buffers a bit, but the controls are a bit bulky IMO. As a visitor, would you think to click on the show to let it buffer out?
To answer your other question, yes Showit Sites does have image galleries that will load faster than what I have. The gallery's on my site are custom, because I didn't want my gallery set up looking like others. I do know that they are working on a couple more gallery widgets so this area will definitely improve.
If you guys have any suggestions we're all ears. Updates are free, and the updates include features that users ask for. They are really good about listening to their customers.

Fantastic. Thanks Simon. So you are sitting at 2440 kb/s download speed (which by the way is half of the UK's average speed of 4 mb/s).
Can you check this site and let me know two things; how long it takes to load, and does the video play smoothly without chopping.

Hey buddy... good to see you here at FM. I tested your site and everything ran perfect. Of course I pay extra for a 8 meg download, 1 meg upload connection.
Thanks for the warm welcome! Much appreciated. I am envious of your connection speed. I have to roll out to my parents house to use their 16mb connection when uploading/downloading large files or testing sites. Such a bummer. What's even worse is the boundary for cable net is less than 1500 feet away from our house!

Why don't you have a fast connection? Aren't you out in Texas?
Duuuude....I am less than 1500 feet away from super-fast-internet-goodness. We're technically county, and as of now there isn't a single provider of any type of internet service to our place (Pearland, TX).

What's that? Someone's talking about David Jay? Where's Rick Rosen Oh... there he is
According to a search, you have posted only three times on this forum. Twice in March you responded to WTD threads offering your Canon gear for sale. You show up in this thread to try and defend your good friend David Jay by making a snide comment aimed at me.
And not that it really matters, but DJ's shooting some weddings this year, for the record Just hung out with him, J*, and the bride of the upcoming wedding.
Bobby
My comment about his lack of shooting weddings was only in response to some other posts which seemed to indicate that if Jay himself was using his own ShowIt Sites for his own weddings and he was successful at bookings it must be a valuable resource to consider. I made no further judgment.
He has commented on a number of forums (Pictage and OSP, I believe) that he is no longer shooting weddings but rather concentrating on is entrepreneurial endeavors. Of course, he, like anyone else, has the right to change his business plan at will so perhaps that has now changed.
I have no thoughts on ShowIt Sites itself and others in this thread seemed to bring a number of pro and con issues already to the discussion. My reason for commenting was only to clarify a misconception.

Marcus,
Showit Sites does offer tutorials (http://tutorials.showitfast.com/) that are basic. Albeit they are very basic, I do agree that buyers are definitely in need of tutorials dealing with more in depth issues such as the topics we're discussing. Video being the most important. This is certainly something I will bring to their attention and we'll definitely do something about that. Thanks so much for you feedback. It is really appreciated.
@Scott - Duuuuude that rocks! I LOVE how the intro image deflates like that! That is super sweet! I have a quick tip for you; if you nest your gallery style group inside of your main style group then your navigation will not disappear on the gallery style group. Just drag and drop that sucker into the main style group. You may have some overlapping objects but that can be fixed quick. Then you'll always have that navigation up on the top of your site making it totally easy for people to browse your site! ...Show more →
Nick, thanks for the kind words and the nice tip! Have to go give that a try!
