Whoa... amazing B&W conversion... assuming is wasn't actually film. Balance is very nice, lot's of shades and still very significant contrast. I like the off balance "feel" and the way the light shades balance the darks on the left. Did you test out different contrast, pre-conversion saturation and level adjustments? Or was this the "way it came out"? Either way, really great photo. -Scott
Thanks Scott. It was originally in color but I didn't do too much. I desaturated, brought the levels in a little on the sides to enhance the contrast, adjusted curves just a touch to bring out some of the details, duplicated the layer, added noise on the new layer to give it more of a 'filmy' feel, set the new layer at 60%, light sharpening on original layer and output.
Ok, when I write it all out it sounds like I did a lot to it.
I love your b/w conversion on this one. Nice job! Love your image as well and it reminds me of an old mom&pop hobby center where I live that recently closed. I'd been going there with my father since I was a kid, so it was sad to see it go. Good luck!
Personally I think it conveys a tremendous amount of emotion. I love hobby shops and they denote fun, Trains, RC cars, planes, boats and so many other great past times. But your image does a great job of showing what has happened to so many small town hobby shops. Sad.
It's on the corner of 15th and a few streets north of Tremont. There's a parking lot in front of it that seems to always be full; I had to use the wide angle lens.
