I was waiting for a headshot from you. This week's contest just plays into your strengths, even if you were trying a strobist lighting setup (instead of your warehouse natural light) for the first time / one of the first times.
+1 on not chopping the head off or chopping more off. Looks unbalanced in its current state
Bev, I like the high key effect and I like the composition - that way the eyes are dominating the portrait which I guess you want to amphasize considering that she is a make-up artist.
I bet she will like the pic. My impression: a tough cookie

Another gorgeous portrait. I really like this crop, but the image was top-notch no matter what. It is hard for me to believe you were nervous. Your very substantial talents just shine forth in this image and every week.
A big collective thank you to everyone. Am really flattered by all the nice comments.
Andrew--thanks, yes this was my first time trying a high key portrait. With a client sitting there assuming you know what you're doing it is pretty intense. Reading up on it helped, but luck never hurts either. lol
Bee: thanks! Yes, she's a tough cookie. She didn't want to smile for her portrait! She didn't want to look "too friendly" I guess because she's a tough trainer and wants respect and to be taken seriously, too.
Steve S.: Oh gosh, what nice things you say. You're my new best friend. :-) Happy Holidays!
Here's another shot of her from our shoot She wanted some fitness shots for her web site and promo. She's doing a squat exercise here. She's very muscular and tan! She's got that "take no prisoners" look that tells you what a great trainer she is.
I think she looks rather peculiar, Bev, but your massive photographic skill and talent have probably helped her look far more attractive than she might otherwise be. Excellent shot and I love the cropping!
She makes me think of an "Ice Queen". Very beautiful and very remote. Personally I don't like this attitude but as this was the effect she wanted to create, she - and you - definitely succeeded.
