Wow, great capture! It feels a little "blown out" on the front of the chin and right below the nose ... but otherwise, I like the conversion, I like the "sharpened" or grainy feel to it.

Wonderful. The composition is great and stare really upgrades it.

Happy shooting,

Thanks everyone for the kind words, the blown out spots I figure to work on and repost later, but not really to concernded about that too much, the black background was done in lightroom and CS3 Filters, and the stare caught my eye so thats why I called it stare down. Thanks everyone your remarks were very Appreciated.

Plenty going for this conversion. Just a tad of touch up perhaps.

Hi Norm,
Normally i would say that you should work on those blown out spots but in this case i think it works really well. Lovely shot, really shows off the lioness well. Well done
Take care

Hi Norm,

Fantastic shot. I love the juxtaposition of these two animals and you have captured them both so well. Not an easy feat. The detail and the high contrast are terrific.

Best wishes,

Steve S.

It's quite a confrontation! Great catch!
I'm wondering if the extreme contrast would work still better if you held the highlights (assuming they're not blown in the original file).
Oh, looking through the comments more carefully I see this was discussed. Well, for what it's worth I'd still like to see it with more of the bright end saved. Looks a little unnatural to me, but it's a fine shot nonetheless.

This was a hard photo to try and get just right idealy I would like to have more time but when working with wildlife I find you have to go with what you have most of the time there is no second chance, no time for ajustments everything is split second shots. Thanks Photon for your comments, and thanks for stopping by.

Excellent timing Norm.
You’ve done a very good job with the background modification and I think that the “extreme” lighting gives the picture a kind of surreal appearance that works very well in this case…
