The 70-300VR is a GREAT walk-around lens for sunny days. But good luck trying to shoot a warbler at 30 feet in a dense forest at 1600 ISO... The 70-200 works much better in less than optimal light, hands down. But then again I prefer my Zeiss 85 f1.4 under those conditions
