Something that might be overlooked here is that maybe one of the older lenses may have not been an AI lens..in which case it would have broken the meter tab or jammed it when a mounting attempt was made.

I was thinking the same thing. That would mess it up.
$220 later, they replaced the ring, shipped it back. Did a shoot Monday, discovered that still sticks. All they did was slap a new ring on. I get to send it back to them again...

Ouch, they really owe you something -- starting with a credit for the shipping and for the unsuccessful repair. An apology on their part would be nice too. For my part, I'm sorry to read that this happened to you.
They sent me a shipping label for it. Not bad, mistakes happen. The sucky thing is I booked January almost solid with portrait shoots with models in aims of revamping my style and breaking in my two new associate photographers who will be shooting with me. I can't even send it off till Monday because I have 3 days of shooting that I *cant* rebook or use a lesser camera, and pray I get it back within a week and a half. Good thing if all else after that I have a friend's D90 at my disposal for some things, it's just damn inconvenient is all.
