Well Socks did not catch a mouse for me today to reshoot my original so I settled for shot of him sitting on the deck. Alot of fun shooting the pets. Thanks again for the comments!
Very interesting shot. Socks certainly looks like it is playing rather than hunting. I understand you choice of depth of field as a compromise, but the picture appears to be sharpest between Socks and the mouse. I think I would have preferred either more depth of field or a little better focus on Socks. I still like the picture a lot, however. Good luck this week.
Thanks for the critique! The shot had to be real fast since the mouse was all over the place. Perhaps the DOF will be better on the next one. It is sunny here today so maybe Socks will show up with another mouse.
Yea... I just now noticed the lines. Nice eye and thanks for the comment! Not sure how much time I have to shoot but I may try another. We also have a few Dacshunds to photograph.
I think I would have liked to see focus on the mouse...
He must have been afraid for his life.
I'm sure this is a difficult situation to capture, but if you do get more chances (given Socks' hunting ability) I hope you'll try getting a shot with mouse and cat both in focus, and also maybe a shot from closer to the mouse's world, with your cat in the background (and not needing to be in focus).
Good shot as is.
Jess... Glad to see you back. I remember your work well. Not much time to shoot today but it was fun out shooting. I am just glad that I don't make a living as a Pet Photographer!
Here is my original picture for those jumping in late and want to see how the above comments relate:
John, the new entry has it all. I'm a sucker for a good graphic image, and the way you got that shadow shape out of the side light is terrific.
I only have two thumbs, but maybe this would be a good excuse to be "all thumbs", so (needed at least one hand to type )
LOVE this one ... much better than the last (the mouse shot made me really sad even if the mouse lived ~ I know it's part of "catting" but I just wanted to turn away from that scene). GREAT capture of a predominantly black cat (at least from above), not an easy feat, depending on lighting and such.
Everything is great, composition, texture, the shadow, conversion. A+
Really like the new photo. Its has a very strong graphic element. I might have darkened the shadow a bit to bring it out a bit more, but then again I like it so much as is.
