I'm with Will; I have no idea what type of egret you could have possibly thought this was to use BE.
I do like the photos, though, and good job on the white exposures!

Ryan,
It was just having a little humour( or annoyance, I guess by some) since I have no real BE shots and there have been a few postings of that lately.
Thanks for the comment though.

Hey Nello,
That's lucky to be alive instead.....my wife has been very tolerant of all these toys I am collecting...so far
Thanks for the complement Nello... but abandon my "N" side and joining the the 'C" side, I'll have to get Lil's approval on that

So have you always had these schizophrenic tendencies, Dan?
Can't decide on a favorite - some might be overexposed, though. I've only seen Egrets twice and both times I overexposed. I see bald eagles all the time - they're easier

Better Egret............hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Howdie Mr Dan.......... ( with the voice of Forest Gump)
You did a good job controlling the whites. Although the first 4 shots look as if
they are lacking light for feather detail. The last two are either heavy crops, Noise Removal to heavy, or
Whites are so darn tough > Need enough light for detail but not to much or to little
I have a heck of a time draggin detail out of white feathers too !
I like the last two 50d shots the best. Nice light, good exposure control too. Oh AND it's a CANON BABY
Great captures Dan, overall D3 is a much better camera than anything that is out there, I own D3, D300, 1DMK3, 1DMK2, 1DSMK2 and Kodak SLR/C for wildlife photography MK3 comes very close and sometimes it does better than D3, overall I should call it even with D3. This assessment is for wildlife and indoor photography only.
Dan on a 2nd look I realised you have 2 different birds here from 2 different species!
First 4 shots is a Great White Egret US version (Egretta Alba Egretta) while last 2 shots are of a Snowy Egret (Egretta Thula) in non-breeding plumage (notice the bright yellow feet extending up the tarsus).
I read this book on herons/egrets so i'm having fun ID'em And also playin' the smart-a$$

Thank you Garen. I love my D3 and probably wouldn't give it up. I got the 50D just so I can use the canon 400mm 5.6L since Nikon doesn't have a prime 400mm 5.6. I am going to test my Nikon 300mm f/4 w/ TC1.4X against the canon 400mm soon to see any big difference in IQ.

Hi Nello,
Thanks for pointing that out. I think you are right. Plus look at the beaks, they have different colors as well.
Ok...now you can stop "playin' the smart-a$$"
Thanks again
