Good shot of a rare bird, Colin. Nice to see a bird photo which looks so resplendent in its "naturalness".

Many thanks Pete - this is "the name of the game", yes?

Um abraço,

Colin

Well, Colin, people like yourself, Lide and I, to name but a few, will not allow this forum to slide to the level of some other internet boards.

Now, back to photography, lads.
I think my MkIIN migh be afflicted with an AF "issue".
See the enclosed photo. I placed the centre AF point on the very contrasty goose, and the dumb camera focused on the duck ?
What gives ?

I would say it's front focussing, send it to me, and i can fix it for you also it's guaranteed there are no front/back focissing problems anymore b/c nothing will be in focus after the FIX, lol.....

The OP's title for this post infers that the problem is caused by the Mark III and appears to be anything but a camera problem. So when reading forums like this I would recommend that everyone use caution when someone claims the fault is the product as so much has been found to be nothing other than operator error. I shoot Canon and have had nothing but good experiences and am getting tired of lots of this misiformation being spread over the internet. Canon has had problems but so has every other manufacturer of photo equipment

This was partly my point Chris, and looking back again at the start of this thread I would not have responded personally and neither should anyone else - leave dieing things to die in peace, do not keep the flame alive.

That's fair enough, but I exchanged a few PMs with David this morning, all he did gave his honest impression, and some good advice, and because of the attitude of certain people, this forum has lost a very valuable member. I'm not so much angry as saddened and disappointed that it had to come to that.

Just thank Goodness that there are a lot of wonderfully talented and knowledgeable members on this Forum, often with a great sense of humour, and also people with some plain common sense. The alternative is, really, unthinkable.

I think we cross-posted Chris - worry not, Dave will return.

Regards to all,

OK Lide, will do. In the interim, here is another missed focus test shot for you to analyze.

Love it! Can't tell you how many shots like that I have. (I keep mine secret for the most part ;-)

There is an English saying, when you have messed up something, that "you have made a duck's arse of it" !!!

Is it possible to see the 'AF grid' in DPP?

We can use zoom browser instead of DPP to check to F/P too

Thanks Ron, but where in DPP can you see the focal grid and the selected 'red' AF point?

In DPP, grid can be displayed by clicking grid in "view" tab after displaying a photo and ALT + L to view the focus point

Thanks for clarifying that Keith, I wasn't actually asking you anyway...

Sigh...

You know the "don't be a bloody jerk" sentiments that have been directed to various contributors to this thread?

Consider this being me saying just that to you.

You'd think that with 4000+ postings under your belt by now, you'd have some vague clue about forums work - but apparently not.

So - for the avoidance of any doubt - until you're the Chosen Arbiter of who says what in reply to what, I'll continue to answer anything I want, any way I want to - and if you want to continue to be smart-arsed in return, I'll react accordingly.

If you don't like it, tough - you don't get to choose.

Clear enough?
