p.3 #1 · Absolute Must have Lense Thread-

heh, all of the usual suspects, so far.

How about for true walkaround stuff?

I spent 6 months on assignment, in Washington DC, living in a hotel room. I carried my camera and lenses everywhere I went, via the subway and on foot. It didn't take me long to leave the big, heavy, fast glass in the hotel room, if I didn't have a specific need for it.

I ended up buying and carrying the 24-120vr and 80-400vr, every day, in conjunction with the 50 f/1.4 and usually the 35-70 f/2.8d. Those 4 lenses would go in my "vacation" walkaround bag today, for DX or FX, cuz they cover a lot of ground. I might also include the 105 f/2 DC now, cuz it's just a killer lens and not all that big or heavy.

okay, flame on.

I'm guessing you like it a little bit?

So far I really do, not quite sure yet if it was worth paying almost 1000$ for it, but I will go out in the field today and test it's capabilities.

1) 24-70 mm f/2.8 on FX or DX
2) 70-200 mm f/2.8 on FX or DX
3) 85 mm f/1.4 on FX or DX
4) 14-24 mm f/2.8 on FX

I LOVE each and every one of these gems. How could I ever choose between any of them?

I like your thinking better. Who carries just one lens anyway??

My "vacation" bag lately has been my D700 coupled with Sigma 12-24mm, 50mm F/1.4, and Nikon 80-400mm. Pretty much covers me from 12-400mm.

On DX, for me it's the AF-D 35mm f/2.

Edit: and if someone would just hurry up and make a small, light 16/17/18mm prime specifically for DX cameras all would be good with the world.
