p.2 #1 · BluDomain and Security

BluDomain also used the same password on my site 4 or 5 times when I requested support. They would change the login so they could work on it, and every time it was the same password and I had to change it back to my normal one even though I requested to have it set. So, if they use this password for everyone, hacking the site is A PIECE OF CAKE.

Other notes on their support. You cannot respond via email, you have to log into the link in the email to edit the call. So if you are on the go, you need to find a machine to login to the support link and edit, or try and few a website on your little itty bitty phone screen.

Second, if you are having an issue and need to upload a file to their support, there is no option to upload a file. Since you cannot email their support, there is really no way to get a file to them unless they ask.

sorry for the multiple posts, but I am going through my notes on this whole thing and want to inform all you great people at www.fredmiranda.com that there is issues with BluDomain.

But like I said, their templates have saved me thousands in web design and time and work beautifully. Great, GREAT stuff when it works!

Okay, I am not going to post the transcript of my support call. I don't want to bring a negative vibe here. I will say that the person that took the call (Let's say the owner of bludomain) did not understand what I was trying to do for them. The problem with email support is some things get lost in translation. If you read one thing wrong, the whole call could go wrong, which it did and now there is no way he will respond to any of my requests right now. I hope he finds that the hosting company they use is indeed in need of updating something, and if he gets enough support calls from other Blu users, he will find this out. Good luck to them and all that use BluDomain for their hosting.

Why can't people create their own so called "template"?

Because we are photographers and not web designers maybe? I do not have the web skills to create a slick website to show my work, let alone have time to design one if I did. This is a cheap way to getting a really slick looking site cheaply and fairly easily.

The templates are fantastic, their support? not so much, but I guess you get what you pay for.

Before you pay, I would check out this link first, it is the Better Business Bureau:

http://denver.bbb.org/WWWRoot/Report.aspx?site=33&bbb=0885&firm=64020703

Like I said, I have not had one problem with them except for the lack of security and this last support call. I would highly suggest to have your site hosted elsewhere if you get a template. You would be much happier doing it that way. Their templates are pretty much flawless.

Funny side note on all this, and I apologize for continuing my conversation with myself...

About 2 hours after I got my last support update from Blu telling me that they are done with the call and had enough discussing it, the problem that I was trying to tell them about was actually fixed. So the person that called me a liar and wanted no part of my support call actually followed my directions and got the problem solved.

No thank you or apology email was sent back to me. If the 200+ clients that were on that server are now having everything work fine, then that is thanks enough for me, but you would think that they would apologize to a customer, especially one that has gotten almost a dozen friends to use their service.

I am now done posting my one and only rambling thread about BluDomain.

Peace out everyone and have a fantastic rest of your summer!

speaking of Bludomain...

I'm actually considering disabling what looks like a backdoor account in my database. I bet that's what they use to get into your site if they need to do support. I can always put the record back into the database if I need to, no?

Wow. Good find. I can't believe a company would set permissions as world-writable in any accessible directory.

Referring of course to "777" permissions.

To all you non-IT dudes/dudettes, not familiar with 'nix systems: think of "777" as that other very, very, very bad number " 666" that you should avoid like the plague...
