Maurice,

i would suggest you try the 105DC over the 105VR. the DC is amazing and has character that i find missing in my 105VR

Maurice,

The 105 VR isn't all that sharp at f2.8. When I had it, I often have to stop down to F4 or F5.6. I found it a sweet lens due to the fact it is a micro and has VR but it is no where near as sharp as my 60 AF-S.

Were they shot at 1.4? If you are looking at 100% crops of 1.4 shots, I'm afraid you'll be searching for a long time for shots that are absolutley sharp. You lose a lot of contrast when shooting wide open like that. And with the DOF being so narrow at 1.4 and the loss of contrast, the images won't look perfect at 100%.

+1

Not to mention, who really cares what the images look like at 100% if they look sharp and beautiful at print/viewing resolution.. torturing yourself by louping your monitor at 100% is not realistic IMHO

It doesn't matter how much you pay for a piece of equipment. It's only going to perform as good as the user behind it. No guarantees it's going to perform flawlessly out of the box. Wish it were the case, though!

that only has some partial truth behind it.
