Central Ontario. I am in a small town, but the show was in a bigger city.
In any case, there were a lot of people. I am not sure what cheap in LA,but my prices start at $1,700,which is very reasonable.
If only cheap people go to the shows, then what do the rest of the folks do? I am sure that they don't read magazines either. 2 years in a national publication and only 1 phone call and no booking. Print ads are pretty much dead, the way I see them. I just need to find a place where all the brides are.

So the OP has gone from trying to book weddings at $1700 a pop (and not having much luck) to: I shoot 45 Weddings a year at 3K+ and I can't be everyone's best friend. I haven't had a single complaint in 4 years,so I guess I am doing ok.
Damn....he doesn't need to shoot weddings....he needs to be on the motivational speaker circuit!!

This guy sounds like the photogs all my clients tell me about that they experienced in other weddings. Typically the comment is:
"He did some pretty good work but he was an a-- h----." Or "I would never book him, I moght punch him out before the end of the day. I bet that picture would be good."
Honestly, these are real comments from people I have booked who have commented on some of the long time studios in my area.

Totally! I actually had the wife of a groomsman come up to me at the reception and say this "Scott, you're so awesome, you're the only photographer that my husband hasn't wanted to punch in the face at the end of the day."
In other words, be cool.

If you are booking them consistently then you have obviously made some type of connection already.
No-one is stating that they will all eventuate into long term friendships or kindred spirits however it's essential to atleast grant them the perception that they are the most important two people in your world at that given time...It will ultimately add to your profits and will enhance your image and reputation regarding future referrals.
I think people misconstrue connection with good people skill's interaction, and communication.

But I am not connected on a personal level. This is all the sites that I've been to were saying. I act professional and deliver great images that my clients fall in love with. This is how I get referrals.
I don't ask them how they've met or what music they listen to or what they do for a living or how they spent their summer. I simply don't need that information. They come in because they've seen my work and they want to have similar style images. All I need from them is some information on DO and DON'Ts from my side. And a schedule that I can sort of follow.
I/4 of the weddings are booked over the email as well. Usually I get deposits after 2-3 emails.
They are obviously feel connected to my work in some way. Its just I don't feel connected to them, or necessity of it....Show more →
Steady eddie,
No-ones implying they know a lot of personal details of their clients. The point is is easier to photograph people during the preparations and portraits if you get on well with them or as some say have a connection with them. Simple.

The funny thing is that he's knocking people for "lying" about making a connection with his clients. Then a post surfaces where he's looking to improve his "people skills" - for which to make a better connection with his clients. Priceless.
His lack of people skills shines through right here.

C'mon folks . . . obviously lives in a rural part of Canada and has absolutely nothing better to do than get online and stir the pot. Having fun Mr. Troll?

The collective IQ(image quality) of those who posted in this thread = to about 160 all together...at low resolution. You people need to learn what sense of humor is. Look it up in a dictionary what humor is! Same goes to other questions I ever made on this board.

DOOD!!!!! Do you like playing with fire? Cause that's what you did when you started this subject.
And where is your $3k a wedding, 45 weddings a year website? I don't like bashing anyone man, but you're pretty much telling everyone here you're not only a bad humor person but also have a bad portfolio to back it up.
At least hassy had something (RIP hassy).
(Ummm...Mr. Mahoney...please cover your ears on the "DOOD" part)

So, when are you going to show us your site? You keep mentioning how some of these people could improve their images, and you have yet to stand behind any of this yammering you are doing about quality, website info, connectionless shoots etc etc etc. Show us your skillz!
Oh, and I have another question... My math may not be that good... but...

I am assuming you'll say something like... "she is my wife's daughter"... and then you will post your website link for us all to see what a great job that website designer did for you, or did you end up creating it yourself? Either way, we'd love to see your work. In a thread about lying... and what people portray themselves as... it would be kinda ironic to not show us.
