Fortunately I have a number of these choices at home:

All Nikkors:
300mm F4 AFS with PN-11 tube (shoots 1:1.8 with terrific working distance for butterflies and dragonflies)
200mm F4 AF micro ('nuff said)
105mm f4 AIS
55mm f3.5 AI (bought new in the last century ['77] but really sharp)

They all have their uses.

Cheers,

Larry

I Just looked up the price of the MPE-65 and nearly had a heart attack!!! About £700 (~$1400) was the cheapest price I could find!!!
Look like I wont be getting one anytime zoom then.
Can anyone tell me if the MPE-65 has a manual aperture selector dial? From the specs I saw it seems to have automatic shut-down but no mention of manual aperture selection.
If it does'nt have it then I would have to convert one electrically as well as mechanically to fit my SD14.

Actually according to B&H photo web site you can get one for $ 865.00. I think they ship overseas.

Anybody out there able to throw me $865 bones

Maybe I scrolled too fast through this thread because I didn't see any Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro lens samples...here's my favorite:
