Someone mentioned that you get the black dots only if you shoot JPEG and not RAW. Either way I am not at all bothered by it, as you can only see them at 100% view. Besides, Canon will be addressing this problem real soon, and hopefully there will be a firmware fix.

Well I agree, but i've started looking at the d700. We'll see what I see there. If i do decide to stick with canon, I will wait a few months and let things settle. I think I'm just a little skidish about spending the 3300 at this time.

Not true, they do show in RAW. Someone also said they do not show in DPP, I don't believe that to be entirely true either. It appears that they are somewhat diminished in DPP but still present.

Sounds like you need to figure out what you plan to be shooting most. The 1DmkII and 5DmkII are 2 vastly different bodies appealing to different audiences typically. If you shoot high ISO stuff often.. there is a LOT of difference. I sold my MKIIN awhile back...

Actually you do have some in that image, about five on the right end and two on the left. I don't consider them crippling at all to this image...not a problem at all in this image.
I looked closely in an attempt to understand the circumstances--to see when they appear and when they don't. In this case, I note that they only appear in highlights of a single specific size, and in fact, only in lights that appear to be the same type. Perhaps there's actually some characteristic of the emitter itself that promotes the problem.
And in this case, it's the offset-rim dot rather than the dot within the highlight that I've seen in some other shots.

I just wouldn't base a buying decision like this on Internet problems (which are always made out to be 10000x worse than real world problems).
You would be doing yourself a great dis-service not getting hold of one and seeing how you find it IMHO.
I said they weren't serious. Look at the far right end, a set of blue tinged lights in a horizontal row along the viaduct that are suffering a bit of (normal) CA rightwise blurring. It's very tiny, but there.
And I would say if that's the extent of your problem, it's not a problem. But I've seen it at levels in some other images that would bug me, so I'd really like to know what conditions actually cause it.
Clearly, though, it doesn't happen under conditions that I normally work.

I found a few also at 220 crop with my browser zoom. Similar to my situation where I really have to look for the few that are there, but they are. Looking at a normal size 0% crop image they are very hard to see in most cases. Like who is going to blow up a picture of a Christmas tree 400-700% You do need the blown out very bright light in front of a dark background. You would not see them in your image where you have very bright lights over a lit or bright building.
Similar to my situation where I really have to look for the few that are there, but they are. Looking at a normal size 0% crop image they are very hard to see in most cases. And, by the way, from what I've read from Chuck Westfall and other Canon sources over the years, Canon does not blow images up to 200% or even 100% in their tests. They make prints. If it passes the test in print, it passes the test.
If the problem is something that only shows up on this kind of image, they may well just not give a fig.
I noticed you had your 1DsMK3 for sale. Did you sell it and get a 5DMK2? I am interested to see how it works with 3rd party lenses.
It's still for sale, if someone offers me a sensible price for it. I can live without 45-point AF and 5fps, so I expect to end up with a pair of 5D2's, although they are expensive here in the UK. As far as I can see there is practically no difference in image quality between the two cameras, even at very high isos.

OK. Please post some samples with the 3rd party lenses when you get you 5DMK2s.
BTW, why would anyone expect much of a difference in IQ, except maybe on in-camera Jpegs?
After a couple weeks with my 5DMKII, I find it's the best camera I have owned in 35 years. (Nikons film, Blads, 4x5, 6x9 etc.
Last evening I did some scans of slides and neg's that won contest in the 80's and I can say we are more that one step ahead for sure... Take your 5D back there will be someone who will buy it to take pictures instead sitting on their duff and picking apart things that IMO are of little interest. Every Camera that has come out has the same people problems.
Remember the D3, 1DsMKIII, and on and on... get over it use it instead of just looking at it on the shelf.
Example, the red ghost on the top focus dot.. yes it's there, I think... only noticed it after so talk about it....200-300 images later It' may still be there, I don't pay much attention to it.. but the things that count, image quality,etc... Great Camera...
