I support any way Fred has to do to keep this forum up and running it takes money to do this...quit complaining if you get instruction of how to be a better photographer and have made money yourself due to any posts,FM review ect what is the problem...this forum to me has been a valuable tool...I love alot of the pics Ive seen and hope people at least like some of mine(Scott Stoness ) Dont worry its not the end of the world now is it? Photography for me is a hobby I do wish I had a way to make money from it...this may happen with more tips and learning I get here for free...what better way to learn you post a pic and learn if it sucks, good, great, excellent or a pulitzer photo...
:
btw didnt really notice it either..
All those opposed to the big banner- Imagine how you would feel if the site was discontinued due to lack of funding. A 728x90 pixel banner is chump change in exchange for this site- and fyi- those that use an ad blocker- are technically costing Fred money with that blocker. Every impression (ie every time the banner shows up) gives Fred money depending on how many times it has displayed by the end of the month. Buck up and simmer down or quit reading the site.
I agree about the new color!!! SO much easier on the eyes than the bright blue!!
Thank you Fred for being so responsive to your viewers requests!!
Mary
after a while, all will become quite accustomed to the banners and they will barely be an intrusion......just click through them every now and then to help Fred's effort
Agreed on the new color scheme - works much more nicely with the forum design scheme. The B&H one I don't mind so much even though it's animated simply because I love B&H. But sorry Fred, NAPP click through gets me free shipping, so I usually go that route for B&H purchases...I'll probably subscribe to B/S again soon though - life is just too hectic right now (hence my extended absence and silence on the forums...)
Adblock wont block the new animated Gif's. I still say Fred can give the people who are paying to help support the site the option to turn this stuff off. Its annoying as heck to watch that B&H animation all the time.
Thank you so very much for providing such a valuable free resource that is used by so many. If you need to subsidize the cost of providing this wonderful resource, by all means do so. I do not fear nor am I annoyed by the free enterprise system. Not only that, because of the manner in which you operate this forum I will be far more likely to support those who would invest and advertise here. Have you ever considered a PayPal donate link? If members are truly concerned about banner ads, color schemes and animations, they could voluntarily solve the problem entirely with one simple click by making their own investment in the cost of providing this forum.

butchM there are many of us who are already supporting this site with our subscriptions to the buy/sell and image upload subscriptions, many also buy actions and other software from the site.

Yeah ... apparently that isn't enough to offset the cost of providing the forum. If you are subscribing to the buy/sell, you are receiving a service for your subscription. If you are purchasing actions and software, you are receiving a product in return. It's not as if Fred is gouging or creating undue stress for anyone. While "many of us" are participating financially, there are far more taking a free ride. In fact, if you polled the membership, I think you may be amazed at how many that frequent here aren't even aware that Fred offers actions. How many threads have you seen that discuss Fred's products? While other similar products are discussed ad infinitum. You'll have to forgive me if I am not alarmed by the appearance of a single banner in order to access the benefits of this forum.

Everyone,
I understand that is hard to get used to this. I'm having a very hard time myself...
Please understand that is very expensive for me to run this site. It has really grown into a huge community and as a photographer I promise that I will do everything I can to keep this as discreet as possible. I have already contacted them about adjusting the color scheme and I do think it was a good suggestion. Also, I'm going to try my best to stick with photography related advertisements. You may have notice that this year I have made a lot of improvements to the site's speed, reliability, code, features, etc...
None of this is free and people charge me a lot for the bandwidth and their services when working on programming. If I were a rich guy who could afford to do all of this on my own without ads, I would. In fact, I did as long as I could.
I really do not want this site to ever be a subscription only place and these banners hopefully will give me an opportunity to keep this site open to everyone.
By the way, none of the topic boards have the banner. (Like this page you reading)
Also, none of your photos will ever be presented with a banner on top. It's mainly on the portal type pages and it should not affect your experience here. It will just take some getting used to.
Please try to understand my position, and work with me on this transition.
All the best,
Fred...Show more →
Doesn't bother me at all Fred, good job with the site.
